Allans Ademba is a student journalist who covered the June 25, 2024, Gen Z protests from the frontlines. Kenyans have celebrated him for his bravery and boldness in reporting the events as they unfolded. Ademba recounted the events of that day, in a documentary dubbed Blood Parliament by the BBC.
Kenyans took to social media to honour him for his courage in sharing the story.
On his social media platform, X, Allan expressed his gratitude for the support, acknowledging those who have called him a hero and a brave student journalist.
“I am really grateful to everyone showing love and appreciation. May we not forget our brothers who lost their lives because they deserve more attention. I am nothing but a young journalist who loves his country. Remember, I was born Kenyan,” he wrote.
In addition to his reporting, Allan played a critical role during the protest by helping to carry the bodies of the fallen and assisting the injured, demonstrating both his commitment to his profession and his sense of duty to his community.
“Thanks to everyone showing love. We lost over 50 strong, patriotic, young Kenyans with promising futures like Eric, Rex, Denzel, among others. Let us not forget. These fallen soldiers deserve more attention. I love you, my people and my country,” he wrote.

Allans Ademba Educational Background
Ademba hails from Kibera, Nairobi. Allans Ademba recently completed his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Mount Kenya University (MKU), where he studied from January 2020 to September 2023.
He has a passion for writing, social work, and research.
Outside of his academic and professional pursuits, Allan has a love for soul music, investigative movies, and psychology.

Allans Ademba Narrates His Story
For 26-year-old student journalist Allans Ademba, it all started as just another normal day. Further, he noted that people were livestreaming the events on their TikTok and Instagram accounts, while national TV stations were broadcasting the protests live.
Initially, protesters were held back by roadblocks, with the police using tear gas and truncheons to control the crowds. Additionally, he added that as the situation escalated, the authorities responded by deploying water cannons and rubber bullets.
At that moment, Allan observed a shift in the protesters’ mindset, with everyone expressing their determination to enter parliament and show the MPs their commitment to the cause they were fighting for.
“The numbers started growing, and people began getting arrested. The police were everywhere, trying to push the crowds back. Some people even climbed on top of the water cannons,” Allans Ademba recalled.
Allan also shared a heartbreaking moment when he witnessed Erickson Mutisya being shot, an injury that ultimately led to his death.
He ended by reflecting on the power of belief, saying, “We have a generation that, once they believe in something, will do anything for it. If you believe in something, just fight for it.”
