Nairobi Water has updated residents on ongoing repair work on the damaged transmission pipeline along Outering Road.
According to the utility provider, most of the repairs are complete, with only a small section left to be fixed.
However, the heavy rains on Sunday night forced workers to temporarily halt repair work for safety reasons.
Heavy Rains Force Temporary Suspension of Works
According to the utility provider, most of the repair work along the Outer Ring Road transmission pipeline has already been completed.

The pipeline was damaged by the ongoing heavy rain across the country, causing water shortages in the affected regions.
“We wish to inform our customers that repair works on the damaged transmission pipeline along Outering Road are progressing, with only a small section remaining to be completed,” the statement read.
Heavy rains across Nairobi have slowed repair operations, particularly at the river section, creating unsafe conditions for staff and their equipment.
The utility provider noted that the suspension was necessary to prevent accidents and protect both personnel and machinery.
“Unfortunately, the ongoing heavy rains have significantly hampered operations, particularly across the river section. Due to safety concerns for our staff and equipment, we were forced to halt all further works at approximately 10:00 PM last night.”
The company has also stated that Repair operations will resume only when the weather improves and the river section becomes safe to access, a process that could take several hours depending on rainfall intensity.
Alternative Water Supply Options for Residents
While repair works continue, Nairobi Water has urged residents to make use of alternative water supply options.
The utility provider has set up a bowser delivery service, which customers can access by dialing *260# and selecting Option 5.
“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused by the disruption in the water supply. In the meantime, customers are strongly encouraged to order water through our bowser delivery service by dialing *260# and selecting Option 5,” the company said.
Water and Sewerage Charges Increased
The Water Services Regulatory Board (WASREB) approved a revised tariff structure for the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Limited (NCWSC), paving the way for changes to bills.

These changes were officially published in the Kenya Gazette notice dated February 27, which sets the new tariff structure for the financial years 2025/2026 to 2028/2029.
Sewage charges were also updated; therefore, customers connected to the sewer system will now be billed at 75% of their total water consumption, using the sewerage rates assigned to their category.
This means that the more water a customer uses, the higher the sewerage cost will be.
Water Shortages in Nairobi
Residents of Nairobi are facing water shortages due to the damaged pipeline across the city.
This has caused water prices to hike, with a 20-litre Jerican costing Ksh 100.
Ken Aseka on X expressed his frustration on high water prices saying “This is a joke. You’re offering false hope! Water is life yet restoring this water supply isn’t a priority. More than a week later, you’re waiting for another heavy downpour. Water cartels are smiling to MPESA agents. Price of 20L of water has now hit Ksh50.”
Another X user, Njeri Mungai, said, “Well happy to report that water in Umoja area from vendors has hit ksh 100. It’s bad. Nairobi Water this needs to be sorted very quickly we all know the rains are not going to stop.“

Customers who have moved houses but continue receiving water bill SMS notifications can remove their phone number from the previous account using the following steps:
- Dial *260# on your mobile phone.
- Select 1 – Registration from the menu.
- Choose 3 – Deregister e-Bill.
- Enter the water account number linked to the previous residence.
- Submit the request to remove your number from that account’s billing alerts.
