Nairobi is set for a major transformation following the release and rendering of the proposed National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Twin Towers.
The construction contract has been awarded to China Bridge and Construction Company.
Once completed, the skyscraper will redefine Nairobi’s look as it will be the tallest building in both East and Central Africa.
Construction of the tower is projected to be completed in 24 months.
NSSF to Construct the biggest Skyscraper in East and Central Africa
In a notice published in early January regarding an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), NSSF proposed a Twin Towers project to be located on plots LR Nos 209/12219, 12220, 11331, 12287, and 11142 within Nairobi County.

The twin-storey buildings will feature a 60-storey and a 35-storey building at the junction of Uhuru Highway and Kenyatta Avenue in Nairobi.
Components of the project include:
- Office spaces,
- Business hotel,
- Serviced residential apartments,
- Retail and conference facilities
- Observation deck on the 56th floor,
- Basement and podium-level parking for approximately 1,150 vehicles
The Twin Towers project will comprise two high-rise buildings in the Upperhill area, in the same location as Britam towers and other major offices in the city.
Benefits of the NSSF Twin Tower in the Country
According to the EIA, the project will provide direct and indirect job opportunities to a significant number of people during the construction and operational phases, thereby reducing unemployment in the country.
During the construction, the proposed project will also enhance the provision of more commercial entities to the public through the use of locally available materials, including cement, timber, sand, and ballast, contributing to the growth of the economy.
The project shall also generate tax revenue for the government, both directly and indirectly, through the hotels used by tourists visiting the country and the commercial amenities.
NSSF will also generate revenue and return on investment for the funds invested during construction.
EIA also notes that during the construction and after, there will be several negative impacts, including
- Air pollution
- Emission of greenhouse gas
- Fire risks
- Traffic disruption in the NCBD
- Noise pollution
- Occupational Safety and Health
- Public health and occupational safety
- Contribution to Climate Change

Once completed, the skyscraper will redefine Nairobi’s skyline, becoming the tallest building in East and Central Africa.
As it stands, Britam Towers in Upper Hill is the second-tallest building in East and central Africa, standing at 200 meters with 31 floors, followed by the GTC Tower, which is 184 meters tall with 43 floors.
