Kenya’s High Commission in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, has broken its silence on the situation in Tanzania amid reports that Kenyans living there are being targeted and harassed by President Samia Suluhu’s administration.
In a statement on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, the Kenya High Commission in Dar es Salaam reassured the Kenyan community in Tanzania that operations at the Mission had resumed normalcy after the lifting of curfews and restrictions imposed during the election period.
“The welfare and safety of Kenyans residing in Tanzania remains a top priority for the Mission,” the statement read in part.
The Commission said it is in constant communication with relevant Tanzanian authorities to ensure that Kenyan nationals remain safe and their rights are protected.
Govt Cautions Kenyans in Tanzania Amid Post-Election Tensions
At the same time, the Commission urged Kenyans living in Tanzania to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding as normalcy returns to the country. The High Commission further advised them to immediately report any security concerns or distress cases for assistance through the official helpline: +255 22 2668285/6.
“The Mission encourages all Kenyans to continue with their lawful normal activities as usual,” the statement added, noting that further advisories and updates would be shared through official communication channels and community networks.

The statement comes amid growing concerns over the alleged harassment of foreign nationals, including Kenyans, following post-election tensions in Tanzania under President Samia Suluhu’s administration.
Several social media posts report that there is a current, ruthless post-election sweep targeting foreigners, especially Kenyans, with witnesses saying soldiers stopped vehicles, searched everyone, forced people to lie on the tarmac with guns cocked, and claimed foreigners may only stay a week even with valid 30-day permits.
Other reports claim that some are being taken from their hotel rooms.
Suluhu Vows to Take Action Against Those Behind Protests
On Monday, November 3, 2025, while being sworn in for her second term in Dodoma, President Samia Suluhu Hassan blamed foreign nationals for the deadly street protests that erupted after the October 29 general election, accusing them of meddling in the country’s affairs and attempting to destabilize the nation.
“What happened is not Tanzanian and not part of our culture. It did not surprise us that some of the youth arrested were from outside the country,” President Suluhu stated.
She vowed to protect Tanzania’s sovereignty “through all means and at all cost” and ordered security and defense organs to manage internal order and prevent further destabilization.
Following her directive, a major security operation was launched in regions including Dar es Salaam, Mwanza, and Arusha.
President Suluhu warned that foreigners deemed “ill-mannered” or “troublemakers” will not be allowed to enter or remain in the country.

Tanzanian authorities have warned citizens against harboring “suspicious foreigners,” stating that anyone found to be doing so will face severe legal consequences.
Samia Suluhu’s win has been widely criticized, as she won with 98% of the votes cast, with many viewing the election process as flawed.
SADC’s observer mission released a preliminary statement declaring that the 2025 Tanzania general election “fell short of the requirements of the SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections”.
They raised concerns about intimidation of opposition figures, disqualification of candidates, media restrictions, and an uneven playing field.
Although the polls were largely peaceful on day one, SADC noted that “in numerous areas, voters were not able to freely express their democratic will.”
