The 2024 CHAN tournament, co-hosted for the first time by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, kicked off on August 2, 2025, with 19 teams. After weeks of intense competition, only two made it to the finals.
Morocco and Madagascar will face off in the final at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, in Nairobi on Saturday, August 30, 2025. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. East Africa Time.
Several high-profile dignitaries are expected to grace the CHAN 2024 final. Among them will be FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who will serve as the chief guest, and CAF President Patrice Motsepe. Madagascar’s President Andry Rajoelina is also scheduled to attend, alongside Kenya’s President William Ruto.
What CHAN Winners Will Take Home
Additionally, the heads of the 54 African national football associations, sports ministers from the co-hosting nations of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, as well as CAF officials and ambassadors from participating countries, will be present to witness the occasion.
The road to the CHAN final had some surprises. Pre-tournament favorites were eliminated along the way, while underdogs advanced. Madagascar made history by reaching its first-ever CAF senior international final. Toky Rakotondraibe’s 116th-minute strike against Sudan in the semifinal secured their place and extended their unbeaten run to four games.

Morocco, the Atlas Lions, booked their spot in the final after a penalty shootout victory over Senegal.
In January 2025, CAF confirmed that the champions of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 will receive USD 3.5 million (Ksh 453,250,000) after the prize money was increased by 75 percent.
“We are excited about the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda 2024 and have significantly increased the prize money of the winner to USD 3.5 million, which is an increase of 75 percent. We have also increased the total prize money of the CHAN Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda 2024 to USD 10.4 million, a 32 percent increase,” said CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe.
About the Tournament
At the same time, the runners-up will take home USD 1.2 million (Ksh 155,400,000), while the team finishing third will earn USD 700,000 (Ksh 90,650,000). The fourth-placed side is set to pocket USD 600,000 (Ksh 77,700,000).
Quarter-finalists will each receive USD 450,000 (Ksh 58,275,000). In addition, teams finishing third in their groups will be awarded USD 300,000 (approximately Ksh 38,850,000) each, while those finishing fourth in their groups will receive USD 200,000 (approximately Ksh 25,900,000).
