Deputy President (DP) Rigathi Gachagua has warned President William Ruto against Kenya Kwanza leaders opposed to the fight against illicit brews.
While attending a church service at Kiamariga PEFA Church in Mathira, Nyeri County on July 7 Gachagua said the politicians misadvising the President on the fight against the illicit brews are creating a war between his government and the people.

“Mr President if you allow Overzealous officers at Harambee House with a Political Scheme to interfere with this war against Illicit brew those people those officers will set you up against the people,” Gachagua said.
He explained that some of the leaders fighting him are opposing the agenda without realizing that they are harming President Ruto’s administration.

“If you think there are politics at play, because this program is led by Rigathi, who has gained popularity. If you open those illicit alcohol clubs, you will be sabotaging President William Ruto and his government,” he said.
The Deputy President stated that the Cabinet has not made a decision to stop the war against illicit brews.

“The last meeting I chaired ten days ago, we are on course,” he said.
Gachagua explained that the war against alcohol and drug abuse was one of the most successful interventions of Ruto’s regime. He stated that the war has made people very happy in Mt. Kenya and other parts of the country.
“If you people at the Interior Ministry think that you want to interfere with this successful program so that maybe you undermine the DP, you are effectively undermining President Ruto and his administration,” he said.

Gachagua Comments on Impacts of the Program
Besides, he said the popularity of Ruto’s administration will depend on interference or non-interference with the war against illicit brews.
Gachagua stated that opening bars and selling such drugs will cause a permanent political damage to the president and the government.
“What are we doing? What kind of politics are we playing? How are we going to play with the lives of our children?” he asked.
He asked the Deputy County Commissioners of Mathira East and Mathira West Constituencies if they have written instructions to reopen the bars selling the illicit brews.
Gachagua slammed authorities for reopening bars and asked the police officers to stop taking orders from Members of Parliament (MPs).
“I want to tell our officers if there are such instructions they should be in writing so that we know who is giving them,” he said.

Decision to Stop the War Against Illicit Brews
Besides, he dissociated himself from any decision that might have been on stopping the fight against the brews.
He maintained that some officers could have made the decision and used President Ruto’s name to implement it.
“I believe that President Ruto is not aware of that decision. Some people are using his name to damage his reputation and standing before the people of Kenya,” he said.
Gachagua asked the leaders to avoid irritating the people who are still healing from the issues that rose around the Finance Bill 2024.
