Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has taken out a 24-page pullout in both the Daily Nation and The Standard, showcasing his administration’s development record as he serves his first term.
The pullouts highlight claims that the county has increased its Own Source Revenue (OSR) to KSh6.5 billion, established 512 new Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) centers with a feeding program, and constructed 32 new hospitals.
“Governor Kimani Wamatangi has in just four years increased OSR to Sh6.5 billion, built 512 new ECDE centers with a feeding program, and constructed 32 new hospitals,” read part of the Daily Nation article.
Wamatangi administration also highlights the modernization of medical equipment, the installation of 12,000 solar streetlights, the construction of seven bus parks and 26 markets, and the provision of 100,000 water connections.
The publication further showcases the upgrading of 19 Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) and support for more than 750,000 farmers through farm inputs.
In addition, Wamatangi says he is also developing nine stadia, while ongoing projects include roads, bridges and drainage infrastructure.
The newspaper campaign has drawn criticism on social media, with some users questioning the cost and whether public funds paid for the advertisements.
Wamatangi Faces Questions Over 24-Page Newspaper Advertisements
Social media user Mungai Kihanya questioned Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s decision to publish a 24-page advertisement in the Daily Nation showcasing development projects in Kiambu.
Kihanya also questioned who financed the advertisements, asking whether the reported KSh21 million cost was paid by Wamatangi personally or by the county government.
“Governor Wamatangi has placed 24 full pages of advertisement in today’s Nation newspaper showcasing his development projects. I have two questions: 1] Why tell the whole country about development in your county? 2] Who paid the KSh21 M for the adverts: Wamatangi or the County?”
However, the KSh21 million figure was raised in his post and has not been independently verified from the material provided.
Another user, Francis Nduati, criticized the governor’s development record, alleging that some markets being rebuilt by the county remain inaccessible to residents.

The Manager claimed that residents of Gatundu North had largely supported another local political figure and alleged that the area had subsequently been marginalized in development.
“Gatundu North was largely with “Wa Jungle,” their own son, and not for Wamatangi, and that’s why he assumes and marginalizes them development-wise,” he said.
