Deputy President (DP) Kithure Kindiki has sent a coded message after his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, hosted politicians opposed to the Kenya Kwanza government at his Wamunyoro residence on Sunday, May 4, 2025.

Among the leaders present at the event were Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, PLP leader Martha Karua, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, and former Public Service CS Justin Muturi.

In a statement on X, Kindiki noted that the political battle lines for 2027 have now been drawn.

“The contest is now clearly defined!” Kindiki said, without giving further explanation.

Earlier, Kindiki dismissed the newly emerging political alliance as a “Coalition of failures.”

He stated that Kenya Kwanza’s biggest competition is not a rival coalition but the challenge of delivering its manifesto to Kenyans.

Kindiki explained that it is not yet time to campaign for the 2027 elections.

He emphasized that President William Ruto and his administration are currently focused on service delivery.

Kindiki Talks of 2027

However, Kindiki added that they will discuss politics and confront their rivals when the appropriate time comes.

“The Bible says that there is a time for everything. There is time for politics and time to work. This is the time for work; it is not the time to discuss who will occupy which seat. When that time comes, we will face those men, and they will not believe it,” Kindiki said.

Similarly, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah stated that the government is focused on serving Kenyans.

He referred to the opposition leaders as “tribal chiefs and political rejects.”

“A confederation of tribal chiefs and failed political rejects attempting to be the cleverest people in Kenya. We shall be diverted from the focus we have on delivering on our mandate,” Ichung’wah said.

Gachagua Sends Message to Ruto

On the other hand, the new opposition has presented itself as the country’s alternative leadership, ready to face off with Ruto.

The leaders pledged to make individual sacrifices to unseat President Ruto in 2027.

Speaking during the event, Gachagua stated that the team will consolidate votes and ensure they beat Ruto in the 2027 polls.

“We will bring all the votes together and ensure that Ruto serves for one term. We gave Ruto 47 percent, and he became President. The Mountain made you President, and it will send you home,” Gachagua said.

Matiang’i Calls for Unity

Matiang’i said the team will work together and handle their differences to ensure they present one candidate in the election.

“We are not going to disagree; we will always agree, find our way, and make the sacrifices needed. If you give us that seat, you will see how things will be done,” Matiang’i said.

He emphasized that the Coalition will restore the people’s faith in government and asked Kenyans to support the outfit.

“We need to clean our country, restore faith in the government so that people can trust it again,” he added.

The leaders also asked President Ruto and his allies to stop abusing former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Why Kindiki is worried

President William Ruto appointed Kindiki, a professor of law, as Deputy President after with precision, orchestrated the ouster of Gachagua.

Since succeeding Gachagua, the good professor has focused on supporting Ruto, maintaining that he was not competing with his boss for attention.

His predecessor, Riggy G has previously described him as Mr. yes sir.

However, questions have emerged as to whether Ruto will keep Kindiki as his running mate in 2027 and if the soft-spoken former interior CS, can overcome the Wamunyoro wave and deliver the Mt Kenya vote.
