President William Ruto has taken action following the assassination of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were.
Speaking during an interdenominational prayer service in Migori on Sunday, May 4, the head of state ordered the police Inspector General to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

Further, Ruto said that the collaborators of the shooters will be hunted down, adding that the government has to protect the lives of Kenyans.
“We have lost our MP just the other day Ong’ondo Were. I want to let you know that we will get those who killed him. They will not succeed. They will have nowhere to hide.

“We will go after them and we will go after their collaborators,” he said.

Ruto Links Assassination to Development
According to Ruto, such violence interferes with the economic development of the country and must never happen again.
“Stability, peace, and unity of the entire nation i a major ingredient in matters of development. The government will make sure that we protect the property and lives of every citizen.
“We will make sure that such a thing does not happen again in this country,” added Ruto.

Suspect Arrested
A suspect linked to the murder of the Kasipul MP was arrested in Nairobi on Saturday, May 4. Officers in charge also recovered a car that the suspect and his accomplices used during the mission.
The same car was reportedly captured on security cameras near the Parliament Buildings.
It was later seen along City Hall Way, Wabera Street, Kenyatta Avenue, Jakaya Kikwete Road, Argwings Kodhek Road, and Valley Road routes believed to have been used after leaving Parliament, shortly before the shooting occurred at around 7:30 p.m.
According to detectives, the suspects used the car to escape the scene after the shooting incident near City Mortuary along Valley Road. Were was shot dead on the evening of Wednesday, April 30, 2025, in Nairobi.
Further, CCTV footage showed that Were’s killers had been tracking him immediately after he left Parliament Buildings around 7 pm.
