Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna’s latest meeting with two Kirinyaga leaders has sparked fresh speculation about possible alliances within the opposition as political leaders position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Sifuna hosted Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Senator Kamau Murango at his office on Tuesday, October 13, where they discussed efforts to unite the opposition and agree on a common strategy for the next election.
In a post on X after the meeting, Sifuna described Maina and Murango as “solid people” and said the discussions focused on bringing leaders together to restore democratic governance.
“Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina and Senator Kamau Murango are solid people. But you already knew that. They stopped by the office today to share thoughts on what we must do to unite the country and especially the opposition, for us to return our nation to democratic governance in 2027.The future looks bright,” Sifuna wrote.
The meeting has fuelled speculation about whether Maina could become a key partner in Sifuna’s political plans, including a possible running-mate arrangement.
Why Njeri Maina Is Emerging in Opposition Talks
Njeri Maina has recently called on opposition leaders seeking the presidency to put aside their individual ambitions and support one candidate to challenge President William Ruto in 2027.

Speaking during the burial of Mwalimu Jackson Karua, father of People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, on October 3, Maina urged leaders including Sifuna, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to resolve their differences.
“For those vying for the Presidency, from Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua, Edwin Sifuna, Fred Matiang’i and others in the United Opposition, I am telling you if it will take you entering a room for a face-off, and even if it means you fighting each other in that room, that is okay,” stated Njeri Maina.
Her remarks placed her among the leaders publicly pushing for opposition unity at a time when several politicians are positioning themselves for the presidential race.
Maina’s meeting with Sifuna comes as opposition leaders call for unity and urge presidential hopefuls to agree on one candidate for the 2027 election.
Kamau Murango’s Role in the Emerging Political Alliances
Murango’s presence at the meeting also brings another Kirinyaga political leader into the discussions around opposition cooperation.
The two Kirinyaga leaders are associated with Gachagua’s political camp, making their engagement with Sifuna significant as opposition figures explore possible areas of cooperation ahead of the election.
Nyandarua Senator John Methu has also been mentioned in speculation about potential alliances involving Sifuna and leaders from the Mount Kenya region.
Some political discussions have presented Methu as a possible ally in efforts to consolidate support from the region, particularly as Gachagua’s political future remains a subject of debate.

Linda Mwananchi Builds Its Campaign Structure
The latest meeting comes as Sifuna’s Linda Mwananchi movement continues to organise its political structures and prepare for the 2027 election.
The movement appointed Pauline Njoroge as interim head of communications, alongside three other women to serve on its Digital, Media and Publicity Team as it steps up preparations for its presidential campaign.
In a statement on Tuesday, October 13, the movement announced the appointments after a leadership meeting on Monday to review its rebranding process, party structures, and the formation of the Presidential Campaign Secretariat.
Njoroge will lead the communication department, drawing on her experience in political and strategic communication, including previous work on presidential campaigns, government institutions and intergovernmental organisations.
“The Linda Mwananchi leadership met yesterday to review progress on the party’s rebranding process, as well as the ongoing structuring of the party and the Presidential Campaign Secretariat. During the meeting, the leadership agreed on the following appointments to the Presidential Campaign Secretariat,” read part of the notice.
The movement also appointed Fredah Onduso, Abigael Gikonyo and Charity Waweru to the Digital, Media and Publicity Team.
The other three appointees bring backgrounds in political activism, digital content creation, public engagement, business and civic education.
