President William Ruto on Thursday hosted Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli at State House, Nairobi.
The two held discussions touching on Kenya’s ratification of the International Labour Organisation (ILO)’s Violence and Harassment Convention, 2019 (C190).
Adopted in June 2019,the convention is the first international treaty to recognize the right of everyone to a world of work free from violence and harassment, including gender-based violence and harassment.
It came into force on June 25, 2021.

Atwoli said he had also sought an appointment with President Ruto for a meeting which brings together all COTU-affiliated secretaries.
“This morning I paid a courtesy call to H.E President William Ruto whereby we held discussions on Kenya’s ratification of ILO C190 and outsourcing of labour.
“I also sought an appointment with the Head of State to meet and share with all @COTU_K Affiliated General Secretaries,” Atwoli said.
President Ruto also met a section of leaders from the Luhya community.
They included Cheif Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale.
Others were former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa, former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and former Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali, among others.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was also present at the State House meetings.
