Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga has said the Kenya Kwanza administration has failed to implement its ambitious campaign promises made to Kenyans.
While speaking during the presentation of the assessment of the first-year performance of the President Ruto-led government by Azimio Economic Council on Saturday, September 16, the opposition leader rated government’s performance at a D- (D Minus) terming the one year a disaster for Kenyans.
“It’s been a grand disaster, and as Azimio, we’ve rated the current regime at 30%, equivalent to a D-, for their initial year in office,” Odinga stated.
Moreover, Raila Odinga stated that Azimio will make good the threat to oust President William Ruto and his deputy from power as their signature collection drive dubbed ‘Tumechoka Initiative’ continues to increase.

“Kama mnavyojua tumekua tunakusanya masahihi, kutoka kwa wakeya.Sahihi tumeshakusanya imefika milioni kumi na zaidi, sasa imetosha gari na tunajua yale ambayo tutafanya na hiyo sahihi,” Odinga stated.
This can loosely be translated to ‘We have collected more than ten million signatures which are enough, and we know what we will do with them.’
No More Street Protests
Likewise, the opposition leader noted that Azimio will not call Kenyans back for the street protests but will hold a different kind of demonstration moving forward.
He said, “mara hii hatutaambia wananchi warudi kwa Barabara, wakirudi watarudi kwa mambo mengine tofauti, sitaki kusema wakati huu maanake nitakua nmetoa maneno mapema, watch this space.
Loosely translating to, “This time we are not telling Kenyans to return to the streets. If they return, they will come back for a completely different reason. Watch this space!”
Furthermore, Azimio coalition leaders accused the William Ruto-led administration of coercing independent institutions to sing to their tune, alleging it is state capture.
They claimed that the police, judiciary, parliament among others were operation on the whims of the executive.

Azimio Economics Council’s Take on Role of Govt’
Ndiritu Muriithi who is a member of the Azimio Economic Council stated that the role of an administration is not to explain a problem but to solve these problems.
“The point of having a government is not so that they can explain to citizens what the problems are but to solve these problems,” Ndiritu stated.
Nonetheless, Azimio Deputy Chief Agent Dr Caroline Karugu echoed Raila’s sentiments, noting that the current regime had made many promises to the women and youth yet none had been kept.
“If there are people that have been hoodwinked by this regime, it is the women of this country. Everything from the pre-election promises of how many women will be in cabinet to how women will have access to markets,” she said.
