Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has endorsed Makadara Member of Parliament (MP) George Aladwa for the Vihiga gubernatorial post in the 2027 general election.
Speaking on Sunday, March 24, Sakaja said Aladwa’s bid will create space for the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to win Makadara MP post in the next election.
He stated that former MP Benson Mutura and UDA candidate in the 2022 election, Anthony Waithaka, will give the party way forward on succeeding Aladwa.
“Aladwa is going to Vihiga to vie for governorship, and he will win. I know him and we will support him fully, one hundred percent,” Sakaja said.
“So, we have Antony and Benson, they will tell us the way forward because Makadara will become ours. We have a lot of hope in these leaders.”
The Nairobi governor was speaking at Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Emmanuel Parish in Makadara, Nairobi during a service attended by President William Ruto.
Vihiga County Gubernatorial Race Poll
This comes after a recent poll by Mizani Africa revealed that Vihiga senator Godfrey Osotsi will win the gubernatorial post if elections were to be held today.
The poll posted on March 18 showed that Osotsi leads in the race to succeed Governor Wilber Ottichilo who is serving his last term.
Osotsi got 48.4% of the votes followed by Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba with 20.5%.
Vihiga first governor Moses Akaranga appeared third with 5.6% followed by Vihiga County Women Representative Beatrice Adagala and Aladwa who tied at 3.2%.

The poll was conducted among 4,500 Kenyans with an average of 100 correspondents per constituency.
Ososti was nominated to parliament for the first time in 2017 through the Amani National Congress (ANC) party.
He however fell out with ANC and switched his loyalty to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
In the 2022 elections, Osotsi vied for the senator position on ODM party and won after former senator George Khaniri ran for governor.

Aladwa Announces Bid for Governor
Speaking on March 1, Aladwa said he will contest for the Vihiga gubernatorial seat for the first time in the 2027 general elections.
Besides, he revealed that he was holding talks with Akaranga to ensure the Bakirima community produces one candidate.
“If Mzee listens to me and allows me to contest I will be the next governor after Ottichilo and I am sure of it,” he said.
Aladwa also said Osotsi had assured him of defending his seat for the second term in the next polls.
He stated that his early declaration is meant to prevent harassment, adding that he won’t interfere with the administration of the current governor.
