The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has dismissed claims made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on plans to scuttle elections, describing them as “a panic-driven public statement” lacking a factual basis.
In a statement dated November 13, 2025, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan responded to Gachagua’s letter to the Inspector General of Police regarding alleged threats and planned disruptions ahead of the Mbeere North by-election.
Hassan stated that the claims and allegations in Gachagua’s letter, including references to alleged “close associates” of UDA Chairperson and Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, as well as Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, exist only in Gachagua’s imagination.
“Foremost, the claims and allegations as well as the names dropped in your letter, including the alleged ‘close associates’ of UDA Chairperson and Embu County Governor, H. E. Cecily Mbarire, as well as Cabinet Secretary, Hon. Geoffrey Ruku, only exist in your pregnant imagination,” the UDA statement read in part.
Gachagua Condemned Documenting Violence
Hassan said that Gachagua’s critique of institutional integrity would carry weight if “his own record was not already full of familiar acts of felony.”
“The nation has a long memory of how, before impeachment and after, you have routinely utilised abusive, insulting and offensive language against leaders who have rejected your polarising political rhetoric,” the statement said.
The UDA Secretary General described the allegations of a plot to disrupt the Mbeere North by-elections as “sensational” and “absurd,” pointing out the irony that Gachagua claimed to be campaigning for a candidate from another party.
Hassan further warned Gachagua that the time for diversion was over, urging him to address allegations of financial misconduct.
Additionally, the party accused him of swindling substantial funds from a prospective Mbeere North parliamentary candidate under the pretence of issuing a DCP Party nomination certificate that was never valid.

The party also cautioned against dragging Leo Wamuthende, the UDA candidate in the Mbeere North MP race, into the dispute, noting that Wamuthende remains highly popular among the electorate, who have pledged to support him peacefully despite attempts at distraction and propaganda.
“We caution you against attempting to drag Hon. Leo Wamuthede, the UDA Party candidate, into your melodramatic reactions,” UDA stated.
Gachagua’s Letter to IG Kanja
Rigathi Gachagua, the former Deputy President of Kenya, issued a public statement on November 12, 2025, addressed to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, raising an alarm over threats of election violence ahead of the Mbeere North by-election scheduled for November 27, 2025.

Gachagua highlighted circulating social media videos featuring individuals he accused of being UDA-linked agitators threatening violence against him, his supporters, and local voters during his planned campaign activities from November 16 to 24.
He demanded that Kanja deploy security measures to prevent state-sponsored goons from disrupting the polls and warned that, without protection, his supporters would defend themselves.
Gachagua also referenced prior incidents, including harassment upon his return from the US on August 21, 2025, and alleged assassination attempts in April 2025, claiming authorities had failed to act.
