Njuguna Waiguru, the son of Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru, tied the knot with Joanne Rodriguez in a star-studded ceremony in Naivasha on August 29.
Njuguna’s marriage to Joanne Rodriguez came after their engagement and traditional marriage ceremonies earlier in the year.
Education and Family
Ian Njuguna Waiguru is the eldest son of Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru.
Njuguna has two siblings, Don and Wabu Waiguru, the youngest, from his mother’s first marriage to Tony Waiguru Njuguna.
Anne Waiguru later married lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo in a traditional wedding ceremony in 2019.
In July, Njuguna’s brother Don Waiguru held his Ngurario traditional wedding with Yvonne.
His mother has served as Kirinyaga Governor since 2017 and was re-elected for a second term in 2022.
Njuguna attended Brookhouse International School in Nairobi, where he studied Business, ICT, and Mathematics at A-level and developed an interest in entrepreneurship.
In 2015, at about 18, he appeared at a TEDxYouth event at Brookhouse, where he spoke about entrepreneurship, his ambitions, and his experience starting a business while still a student.
He later moved to England to study at the University of Salford in Manchester.

Career and Entrepreneurship
Njuguna began his entrepreneurial journey by becoming the founder of Something Inc., an ICT- and electronics-related business dealing with customized electronics and accessories.
The company also housed two projects, including the Kila Kadi, a business-card replacement app, and Lion Arts, a creative writing and illustration venture.
According to Ian, he started the company after his mother encouraged him to start a business during his 2015 TEDxYouth talk.
Following his mother’s advice, Njuguna created the company in about two months.
In 2020, Njuguna became a co-founder and CTO at Fingo Africa, a fintech startup that provides digital banking services for youth.
Njuguna Waiguru’s Relationship with Joanne Rodriguez
In January 2026, Njuguna and Joanne Rodriguez celebrated their engagement ceremony and later held their traditional marriage.
Njuguna and his wife performed the Ruracio and Ngurario ceremonies in May 2026 before a white wedding in August.
During the ceremony, the bride, Joanne, wore a white wedding gown, while Njuguna Waiguru wore a cream-colored formal suit.
