Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru’s family was the centre of attention over the weekend after her son, Don, held a traditional marriage ceremony, popularly known as Ngurario, with his partner Yvonne in an event attended by prominent political leaders and other invited guests.
Waiguru shared the news through a social media post, expressing joy and gratitude as the couple formalised their union in accordance with Kikuyu tradition.
“Congratulations, our son Don, and our daughter Yvonne, on your Ngurario,” Waiguru wrote.
The governor said the occasion marked one of the most memorable moments in her life as a parent, describing it as a day filled with love, commitment and thanksgiving.
“Seeing you both come together in love and commitment fills our hearts with immense joy and gratitude. May the values that brought you here, love, respect, faith and kindness continue to guide you,” she stated.
Waiguru’s Son Don Weds
Waiguru also warmly welcomed Yvonne into the family, saying they looked forward to sharing the journey ahead with the newlyweds.
“We are blessed to have you, and we look forward to sharing this journey with you both. We love you dearly and look forward to the wedding,” she added.

The colourful event attracted several notable leaders, underscoring the close ties the governor enjoys across the political divide.
Among those she acknowledged were Nyeri County Woman Representative Rahab Mukami, Laikipia Woman Representative Jane Kagiri, women leaders Faith Wairimu Gitau, Lydia Haika, Cecilia Mbarire and Irene Njoki, among others.
Photos shared from the ceremony showed a vibrant celebration featuring traditional attire, cultural rites and family gatherings as relatives and friends joined the couple in marking the milestone.
