Samson Ndindi Nyoro is a Kenyan politician, economist, investor, and entrepreneur who serves as the Member of Parliament for Kiharu Constituency in Murang’a County.

First elected to Parliament in 2017 and re-elected in 2022, he has emerged as one of the most prominent economic voices in Kenyan politics, building a reputation through business, investment, budget oversight, and national policy debates.

Early Life and Education

Ndindi Nyoro was born on December 12, 1985, in Gathukeini village in Murang’a County.

He grew up in a modest family and has often spoken publicly about the economic hardships his family faced after the death of his father when he was still young.

According to Nyoro, his mother struggled to raise the family and finance the education of her children.

He is the youngest of four children.

Nyoro began his education at Gathukiini Primary School, where he sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).

He later joined Kiambugi Secondary School for his secondary education between 2000 and 2003.

His strong academic performance earned him admission to Kenyatta University in 2005, where he pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and graduated in 2009.

While at the university, he served as Academic Secretary in the student leadership structure and became chairman of both the Murang’a Students Association and the Mount Kenya Students Association.

His university years also marked his entry into the world of finance and investment. He began trading shares on the Nairobi Securities Exchange while still a student and worked part-time at Ngenye Kariuki and Company Stockbrokers.

Business Career and Investments

According to his official parliamentary profile, Ndidi Nyoro’s professional career began in the telecommunications sector, where he served as Managing Director of Afrisec Telecoms Limited from 2006 to 2010.

He later moved into investment and financial services, becoming Managing Director of Stockbridge Capital, a position he held from 2010 until his election to Parliament in 2017.

Nyoro is also one of the few Kenyan politicians whose personal investments in listed companies have attracted widespread public attention.

Regulatory disclosures showed that his shareholding in Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) grew from about 9.1 million shares in June 2021 to 27.3 million shares in June 2022 before rising further to approximately 32.5 million shares.

At the time, he was reportedly among the utility firm’s largest individual shareholders. He later sold about 11.78 million shares, reducing his stake to roughly 20.72 million shares.

In 2024, Nyoro expanded his investment portfolio by acquiring 20 million shares in TransCentury Plc, a stake estimated at about 1.77 per cent of the company and one that placed him among its leading shareholders.

Ndindi Nyoro’s Entry Into Politics

Before seeking elective office, Nyoro served as chairperson of the Kiharu Constituency Development Fund (CDF), a position he held between 2013 and 2016.

Nyoro entered parliamentary politics in the 2017 General Election, contesting the Kiharu seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.

He won the election and joined the 12th Parliament as one of the youngest MPs from the Mt Kenya region.

Following the political fallout within Jubilee after the 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga, Nyoro aligned himself with Deputy President William Ruto’s camp and became one of the most vocal supporters of the Hustler Movement in Central Kenya.

In the 2022 General Election, he successfully defended his seat under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), winning 68,256 votes against his closest challenger Karanja Wamatangi of Jubilee, who garnered 9,425 votes.

However, his standing within the ruling coalition began to decline in 2025 when he lost the Budget and Appropriations Committee chairmanship and was subsequently removed from the committee altogether during parliamentary restructuring.

On 17 August 2026, Ndindi Nyoro announced that he had left UDA and joined the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK).

He said the party had aligned itself with the opposition and that he would work with other opposition leaders in preparation for the 2027 General Election.

Family and Net Worth

Nyoro keeps much of his family life away from the public spotlight.

However, media reports identify him as married to Sophia (or Sophie) Wambui, and the couple reportedly married in 2019.

Nyoro is widely regarded as one of Kenya’s wealthiest politicians of his generation, largely due to his background in telecommunications, investment management, and stock-market investing.

However, no independently verified public figure establishes his net worth.
