Gor Mahia FC has announced the mutual separation with the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ray Oruo.
In a press release statement dated July 2, 2025, Gor has thanked Mr. Oruo for his service and contributions to the club during his tenure and wishes him the very best in his future endeavours.
This departure coincides with a major restructuring at Gor Mahia, following a trophyless 2024-25 season where they finished second in the FKF Premier League and lost the FKF Cup final to Nairobi United.

Ouro’s departure brings an end to a nearly five-year tenure as the club’s top executive. Oruo’s time as CEO saw Gor Mahia navigate financial and organizational challenges while maintaining its status as one of Kenya’s most successful clubs.
The club also released several key players, including Ernest Wendo, Christopher Ochieng, Alphonce Omija, Enock Morrison, and Boniface Omondi, signaling a significant squad rebuild.
However, the 2024-25 season exposed underlying issues, including instability in the technical bench, player unrest, and tactical shortcomings. The club’s failure to defend its FKF-PL title, coupled with the cup final defeat, prompted a sweeping overhaul.
The club has cycled through three head coaches in the 2024/25 season alone. Brazilian Leonardo Neiva was dismissed in November 2024, followed by a brief interim stint by Zedekiah Otieno. Croatian coach Sinisa Mihic, who took over in February 2025, was also let go after a mixed run of results.
Gor Mahia has stated that these changes are part of a long-term strategy to strengthen both technical and operational capacities ahead of the 2025/26 season. The club has yet to announce replacements but promised updates in due course.

The loss at Ulinzi Sports Complex not only cost Gor Mahia a chance to secure a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup but also sparked fan unrest, with some supporters targeting interim head coach Zedekiah “Zico” Otieno, who required police protection after the match.
In a statement issued by club chairman Ambrose Rachier, Gor Mahia described Oruo’s departure as part of a comprehensive internal review aimed at strengthening the club’s technical and operational capacity for the 2025-26 season.
As Gor Mahia embarks on this new chapter, the focus remains on restoring their legacy as Kenya’s footballing powerhouse.
The club’s management has called for unity among supporters, promising a strategic approach to recruitment and leadership appointments in the coming weeks.
