Mercy Masai, a popular personality on X has hit back at critics following allegations that a judo player was dropped from the national team to make room for her on a trip to Europe.
Masai took to social media to address the backlash, dismissing the claims as baseless and fueled by jealousy.

Further, she clarified that she was the elected Kenya Judo Federation (KJF) Communications Director.
At the same time, the Kenya Judo Federation (KJF) has publicly expressed appreciation for Mercy Masai’s contributions as the federation’s Communications Director amid the allegations.

The Kenyan Judo team travelled to Georgia for the Grand Slam 2025.
“You would have taken a minute to go through my bio at least. am the elected Communications Director Kenya Judo, not appointed,” Masai stated.

Mercy Masai Online Backlash
Masai found herself at the centre of controversy after reports surfaced that she was set to travel with the national judo team to Georgia for the Grand Slam 2025.
Online critics claimed that her inclusion came at the expense of an athlete, raising concerns about the fairness of the selection process.
The allegations have sparked heated debate among Kenyans online with some questioning the federation’s priorities.
However, KJF has defended Masai, commending her communication skills and her role in increasing the sport’s visibility.
“As Kenya Judo Federation, we appreciate Mercy Maasai for her dedication as a Communications Director. It’s her prowess that has helped bring judo to the forefront,” the federation stated on X.

Online Supporters Defend Masai
Despite the backlash, other online users stepped in to defend Mercy Maasai. Gustavo, a user on X dismissed the claims, saying that he has verified the reports with the Kenya Judo Federation (KJF) leaders.
“I just spoke to the Judo manager, and no player was left out. You guys are just hating on Mercy Masai because she’s making moves,” Gustavo posted.
At the same time, Masai insisted that the claims were fueled by jealousy.
“Been going through some comments lately and this is what I have to say to them, haters. I am incredibly blessed to be created this beautiful by God, but brethren, stop the jealousy and the unnecessary negativity on my posts.”
“A big behind (nyash) without brains, hard work, sacrifice, and commitment are equally useless, but I understand some of you must hate to eat, so good luck. It must hurt to be this ignorant,” she stated.
