The Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) has confirmed that Ezekiel Mutua is no longer the Society’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
In a notice dated May 8, 2025, the MCSK Board of Directors confirmed that Mutua was dismissed from his position effective April 3, 2025.
Further, the Society’s board cautioned members of the public that the ousted CEO has no authority to transact any business for and on behalf of MCSK, and “hence should be vigilant and careful when dealing with him”.
“This is to inform MCSK Members, Stakeholders, Partners and the public at large that Ezekiel Mutua ceased from being an employee of the Music Copyright Society of Kenya Limited (MCSK), effective 03 April 2025,” read part of the notice.
“Disclaimer is hereby issued that MCSK shall not be held liable for any loss, damage, or injury incurred for transacting with Ezekiel Mutua.
At the same time, the board accused the ousted CEO of refusing to surrender the company property in his possession after his dismissal from employment with the Society.
According to the board, Mutua has declined to surrender a Toyota Prado TX vehicle and all official MCSK social media accounts.

Elections
At the same time, the Society’s board has announced plans to conduct fresh elections for Regional Directors, Regional Committee Members, and Budget Committee Members following the withdrawal of court orders that had previously halted the process.
In a notice, the board confirmed that the elections will proceed after the Registrar of Companies held extensive consultations and the High Court withdrew interim orders in Constitutional and Human Rights Petitions No. E185 of 2024 (Nairobi) and E006 of 2024 (Kisumu), which had suspended the elections originally scheduled for April 25, 2024.
According to the board, fresh nomination forms will now be received from all interested and qualified members seeking to contest for the various positions.
The elections will be held in the month later this month, in accordance with a resolution passed by members during an Extraordinary General Meeting held on February 15, 2024, at Maanzoni, Machakos.

Ezekiel Mutua at the helm of MCSK
Mutua’s dismissal as MCSK CEO comes just months after the organisation publicly dismissed reports suggesting he had been suspended.
On Monday, November 25, 2024, the Society’s board chairperson Lazarus Muli issued a statement refuting a fake poster that had circulated online, falsely claiming that the former Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) boss had been ousted.
Muli attributed the misinformation to “cartels in the industry who are unhappy with the great work Mutua is doing for MCSK and the music industry in general.”
He defended Mutua’s leadership, saying the CEO had initiated much-needed reforms in an industry “held hostage by cartels at the expense of artists.”
Mutua was appointed CEO in March 2022, following a competitive recruitment process in which he emerged the top candidate.
His appointment was formally announced on March 25, 2022, by Muli, who hailed his leadership potential.
Prior to joining MCSK, Mutua served as CEO of the Kenya Film Classification Board until August 2021.
