At the same time, Eunice Koech, a Climate Modelling Expert called on humanitarian organizations to take precautionary measures and prevent disasters from occurring.
“We are going into an era of anticipatory action and therefore we do not wait for disasters to happen but anticipate them. And because we have this warning information early enough, it is time to put in the anticipatory action,
“Each humanitarian organization working with the government has the anticipatory action that they should take and start rolling out,” she said.
On the other hand, Climate Engagement Expert Calistus Wachana asked that the government put in place measures to maximize on the positive impact the heavy rainfall will bring.
“This forecast will also have an impact on water resources and hydro power generation in the region. It will also affect agriculture and food production.
“So various government and non-governmental agencies need to work together to make sure that they maximize the positives and mitigate the negatives that will come with the season,” he said.
