The Kenya Meteorological Department (Kenya Met) has released a five-day weather forecast for the week beginning August 17 to August 21.
According to the met department, residents in Nairobi and its environs residents should brace themselves for moderate rainfall and a continued cold season during the period.
Kenya Met in the forecast noted that areas within the Highlands East of the Rift Valley which include Nairobi, will experience cold and cloudy nights accompanied by showers for at least two days.
Additionally, the region will experience cloudy mornings that will break into sunny intervals and showers for at least four days in the afternoons.
These areas will experience a maximum of between 25°C and 26°C, with lows of between 9°C and 7°C.
Other regions in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka counties.
“Rainfall is expected to continue over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and North-western Kenya,” said Kenya Met.
“Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley.”
On the other hand, Kenya Met said that some places of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley are expected to experience showers and thunderstorms especially in the afternoons and during the night accompanied by low temperatures of up to 9°C.

These include the counties of West Pokot, Siaya, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, and Busia.
Kenya Met on Minimum and maximum temperatures
In addition, chances of these regions to experience sunny intervals are very low, according to the weatherman as rains over few places have been predicted during the mornings for at least four days accompanied by maximum temperatures of 31°C.
At the same time, the weather department said that the rest of the country will be generally dry.

Maximum High daytime temperatures of more than 30°C will be experienced in parts of the coastal counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale.
North-eastern Kenya counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties will remain dry with maximum temperatures of 37°C especially during the day, with cloudy conditions expected during the night.
Areas within the south-eastern lowlands, which include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta Counties are set to experience minimum temperatures of 11°C and 31°C maximum.
According to the Kenya Met, the high temperatures are to be experienced mostly during mornings and afternoons which are expected to be covered by sunny intervals while most nights will remain partly cloudy.
