Starlink has offered free internet to Venezuelans amid the ongoing tensions with the United States.
In a statement dated January 4, the company confirmed it will maintain uninterrupted connectivity to the people of Venezuela through February 3.
“Starlink is providing free broadband service to the people of Venezuela through February 3, ensuring continued connectivity,” read part of the statement.
This free access covers the entire country, allowing users with Starlink satellites to connect via satellite without monthly fees until the date.
The move responds to the immediate crisis, where strikes caused blackouts affecting over 60 percent of Caracas.
How Starlink Began Its Operation in Venezuela
It officially began operations in Venezuela on January 4, 2026, after the capture of President Nicolas Maduro.
The launch was announced via a post on X, stating that the company would provide free internet access to the people of Venezuela through February 3.
In addition, Elon Musk highlighted that the move was in support of the people of Venezuela.
“In support of the people of Venezuela,” said Elon Musk
However, the initiative was a response to potential and actual disruptions in internet connectivity observed during the US military operation, ensuring continued access to information for citizens amid the tension.
As explosions rocked Caracas and nearby areas in the pre-dawn hours, hospitals were left on generators and streets in darkness.

Before this official activation, Venezuela had not granted regulatory approval for Starlink.
However, Starlink terminals were reportedly circulating in the black market as early as March 2024, with some users accessing service via plans from other approved countries.
For families relying on the internet for work, school, or news, this ensures they stay online when traditional networks fail.
Therefore, the current free service is temporary, and it remains unclear whether a permanent commercial rollout will be established under the newly formed government.
Other Starlink Humanitarian Efforts
In 2022, Starlink provided free service in Ukraine during the war, helping over 1 million people stay connected. It replaced destroyed communication networks for civilians, the government, and the military.
Elsewhere in Jamaica, Starlink donated kits to local governments and organizations such as UNICEF, powering hospitals and food distribution centers.
In the Philippines, SpaceX donated 100 units to Masbate Province to help rebuild communication networks after Typhoon Opong, ensuring remote areas had internet access.
