Ribe Boys High School is a national public boys’ boarding school located in Kilifi County with a history dating back to the 1940s.
The learning institution was established by missionaries from the Methodist Church as a boarding primary school in 1940, before being split into two in 1952 to form Ribe Boys and Ribe Girls intermediate schools.
They were, however, merged to form a co-educational mixed secondary school known as Ribe Secondary School in 1963, with Ross Wells as its first headmaster.
In 1989, the school was once again split into Ribe Boys and Ribe Girls. The main buildings, classes, and administration block were inherited by Ribe Boys, located next to Ribe Methodist Church Station, while Ribe Girls occupied some old buildings that formerly belonged to Ribe Teachers Training College, which had been relocated to the land on which the present-day Shanzu Teachers College stands.
The ‘A’ level stream was phased out in 1989 following the nationwide shift to Kenya’s 8-4-4 education system. Since then, student admissions have been determined by performance in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.
The KCPE was replaced in 2023 by the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) framework. Ribe has consistently expanded in both size and academic performance, with a current enrolment of over 800 students.
Over 300 students are admitted to the institution annually based on academic merit and individual choice, in line with Kenya’s education policy.

School Fees
The government previously issued a directive outlining the maximum annual school fees that parents are required to pay.
Under new guidelines introduced in 2020 by the Ministry of Education, Kenya’s 103 national schools were grouped into four clusters.
Ribe Boys was placed in the prestigious Cluster Three (III), meaning the official annual fee cap for students is approximately Ksh75,798.

However, actual fees may vary slightly from school to school due to additional charges levied by individual institutions, such as for uniforms, motivational programs, or co-curricular activities.
Location and contacts
