The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has condemned rising acts of violence in Kasipul Constituency, calling on security agencies, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), and political leaders to safeguard peace, fairness, and the rights of voters ahead of the November 27 by-election.
In a statement released on Friday, ODM National Chairperson Gladys Nyasuna Wanga expressed deep concern over what she described as “escalating acts of lawlessness” that threaten peace and democracy in the region.
“We wish to make it clear that ODM will not be intimidated by acts of lawlessness aimed at derailing a free, fair, and credible election in Kasipul. The people of Kasipul deserve the right to choose their leader without fear, intimidation, and coercion,” Wanga said.
ODM Condemns Violence Ahead of Kasipul by Elections
The party also urged its supporters to remain calm and focused, while avoiding any form of provocation.
“ODM remains steadfast in its commitment to peaceful campaigns and democratic expression by our members and people. We also call upon our supporters to remain calm, peaceful, and focused and to shun provocation,” she added.

According to the statement, a voter engagement event by ODM candidate Hon. Boyd Were was violently disrupted by goons allegedly linked to a rival camp.
The attackers are said to have stormed the venue, destroyed property, and endangered residents’ lives, an incident that reportedly resulted in loss of life and heightened fear among locals.
Pattern of Intimidation
ODM highlighted that this is part of a worrying trend of violence in the area, citing an incident at a Women Empowerment Programme in Sikri, where vehicles belonging to supporters were vandalized and attendees were harassed.
“This is not an isolated incident. During the recent Women Empowerment Programme in Sikri, several vehicles belonging to supporters of our candidate were vandalized, and the women attending the event were harassed and intimidated,” the statement said.
Call for Action
The party urged security agencies to take swift action and bring those responsible to justice. ODM also called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to guarantee a level playing field for all candidates in the by-election.
“We call upon security agencies to act swiftly and decisively and bring to book perpetrators and financiers of violence,” Wanga said.
“We urge the IEBC to ensure a level playing ground for all candidates.”
By-Election Context
The Kasipul by-election follows the death of the late MP Charles Ong’ondo Were in April 2025. Among the main candidates contesting the seat are Boyd Were (ODM), Philip Aroko (Independent), Sam Rateng (UPA), and Collins Okeyo (MDG Party).
Political analysts predict an intense contest as major parties vie for dominance in the region.

Voters will head to the ballot on November 27, 2025, to elect the successor of Charles Were, who was shot dead in April 2025 by unknown assailants in Nairobi.
