Faras Kenya, a popular taxi service provider, has taken action after one of its drivers allegedly took advantage of a client’s mistake and kept an excess amount of money.

The driver, who has been identified as Isaac Mwaura, has since been suspended by the company while it conducts a thorough investigation into the misconduct.

The incident occurred on April 15, 2024, when Henry Vidolo, a client of Faras Kenya, requested a taxi from the city center on Taveta Road at around 3:17 pm to Umoja 2.

Upon reaching the destination, the driver insisted on receiving more than the displayed amount, and Henry eventually agreed but mistakenly paid Ksh 6,000 instead of Ksh 600.

“After reaching the destination, the total amount on the app was 510. The driver told the client (Henry) that he must pay more, so Henry agreed to pay Ksh 600, by bad luck Henry Vidolo paid Ksh 6000, and unfortunately he realized this after they had parted ways with the driver,” read the statement by Sikika Road Safety.

The Client attempts to retrieve his money

After realizing his mistake Henry attempted to contact the driver but was met with shock when he discovered that he had been blocked.

Henry then contacted Sikika Road Safety for help and was advised to report the incident to the police and obtain an OB number, which he reportedly did.

“Henry Vidolo was very much frustrated and at around 7:05pm he called Sikika ROAD Safety seeking help, we advised him first to go and report and get an OB number which he did and reverted back to us with all the evidence,” said Sikika.

A representative from Sikika ROAD Safety, Daniel, called the driver in an attempt to help Henry but was met with a “very rude and arrogant” attitude from the driver.

“Mr. Daniel from #sikikaroadsafety called the Faras driver, Isaac Mwaura through his number which is on WhatsApp, calls and the one he is using on the Faras app, he picked, and he was very rude, arrogant and he hung up the call,” added Sikika.

Henry attempted to reverse the transaction, but it was too late as the driver had already utilized the funds.

Following their futile attempts to retrieve the money, Sikika directed the matter to Faras Kenya saying, “Faras Kenya you are the only people who can help Henry Vidolo receive his money back therefore do the needful and sort this issue.”

Faras Kenya responds

In response, Faras Kenya has issued a statement apologizing for the incident and promised to refund the client’s money.

“Once again we sincerely regret the unpleasant experience our brother Henry Vidolo had with one of our drivers as well as the frustration he experienced.”

The company assured that it had taken swift action against the driver and has ensured that such incidents do not occur in the future.

“The driver, Isaac Thomas Kamau, with Tel no: 0798790989, refunded the client’s money; however, his Faras Captain account has been suspended until the investigation is completed,” noted Faras.

In case of any disputes, clients are advised to report the matter to the relevant authorities and seek assistance from trusted sources.
