Former president of the United States of America, Barack Obama penned a heartfelt tribute to remember his wife Michelle Obama’s mother who died on May 31, 2024.
Barack Obama stated the even as they mourn the passing of Mrs. Marian Robinson, they would remember her as an inspiring example to their lives.
“There was and will be only one Marian Robinson. In our sadness, we are lifted up by the extraordinary gift of her life. And we will spend the rest of ours trying to live up to her example,” the post read.
The family announced the death in a statement seen by The Kenya Times, saying “she passed peacefully this morning (Friday, May 31, 2024), and right now, none of us are quite sure how exactly we’ll move on without her.”
In the statement, the family stated that Marian Robinson who died at 86 years old, was loved beyond words by countless people whose lives were improved and inspired by her presence.
“As a sister, aunt, cousin, neighbor, and friend to so many, she was beloved beyond words by countless others whose lives were improved by her presence,” the statement reads in part.

Family Mourns Marian Robinson
The family noted that Marian was a calm and non-judgmental mother who witnesses their triumphs and stumbles, further sharing the light moments she had with Barack Obama and Kelly.
“As a mother, she was our backstop, a calm and nonjudgmental witness to our triumphs and stumbles. She was always, always there, welcoming us back home no matter how far we had journeyed, with that deep and abiding love,” reads the statement in part.
“For Barack and Kelly, she was the best mother-in-law anyone could hope for. We would tease her sometimes that she’d need to stop thinking that she was “imposing” on us because we always wanted to see more of her, not less.”
The statement was jointly issued by Michelle and Barack Obama, along with Craig Robinson and his wife, Kelly, as well as Marian Robinson’s grandchildren: Avery, Leslie, Malia, Sasha, Austin, and Aaron.
Michelle Obama Mournes Her Mother
Michelle Obama spoke of her mother’s great influence in hers and her family’s life further stating how she was her rock and steady backstop for their entire family.
“My mom Marian Robinson was my rock, always there for whatever I needed. She was the same steady backstop for our entire family, and we are heartbroken to share she passed away today. We wanted to offer some reflections on her remarkable life,” she said.

President Biden’s Farewell Support
The current US president and friend to the Obama family Joe Biden expressed his condolences on X, speaking of knowing Mrs. Marian Robinson as a devoted mother and grandmother with a fierce unconditional love for her family.
He proudly spoke of how she extended that same love to him and his family.
“We knew Mrs. Marian Robinson as a devoted mother and grandmother with a fierce and unconditional love of her family. With the blessing of friendship, we felt that love ourselves – with every quiet smile or warm embrace she shared with us,” Biden wrote on X.
He further highlighted how the late Marian served her country right alongside them.
“She believed, like we do, that family is the beginning, middle and end. She moved into the White House to be there for her family when they needed her the most, and in so doing, she served her country right alongside them. Her life is a reminder that we are a great nation because we are a good people,” the post further read.
