Huawei Technologies has announced a series of global initiatives aimed at developing digital talent for youth worldwide.
Unveiled during a talent summit in Barcelona with the theme “IC Talent: Nurturing Excellence in a Digital World,” these initiatives include the launch of the global ITU-Huawei Generation Connect Young Leadership program.
The summit featured representatives from international organizations like International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and UNESCO, along with government officials from Greece, Kenya, and Mexico.
ITU Radio communication bureau director, Mario Maniewicz, launched the ITU Generation Connect Young Leadership program, done in collaboration with Huawei.
Youth Empowerment Initiatives
The program encourages youth aged 18 to 28 to submit ideas for community projects addressing the digital divide. Selected projects will receive funding, mentoring, and training for implementation.
Maniewicz highlighted the importance of youth involvement, stating, “I encourage everyone to share widely in your diverse networks and ensure youth from all parts of the globe are part of this great movement.”

Additionally, Huawei disclosed a joint project with UNESCO’s Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL), set to be implemented in Morocco.

This project aims to enhance the digital skills of literacy educators, benefiting 10,000 youth and adult literacy teachers, trainers, and managers.
UIL Director Isabell Kempf emphasized the significance of empowering educators and the support received from Huawei, stating, “We’re implementing a project that aims to strengthen the digital skills of literacy educators across several countries of the Global Alliance for Literacy.”
“Today, I’m proud to announce that, with the support of Huawei, we can launch the project in the Kingdom of Morocco.”
Huawei also announced plans to sponsor the European Girls’ Olympiad in Informatics (EGOI) as part of its efforts to encourage more girls to enter the technology sector and promote gender equality.
Huawei Barcelona Summit Speakers’ Remarks
Eljakim Schrijvers, CEO of EGOI 2024, expressed appreciation, noting that Huawei is leveling up its effort to improve diversity in the STEM field.
Furthermore, speakers from Greece, Kenya, and Mexico shared their experiences with Huawei’s local talent training programs.
Huawei Cloud’s Global Startup Ecosystem General Manager, Duan Xiaolei, introduced plans to launch the startup platform in Europe, focusing on providing IT-based and intelligent services to help startups migrate to the cloud.

Also, Vicky Zhang, Huawei’s Corporate Communications Department Vice President, emphasized the company’s commitment to cultivating digital talent globally, stating, “I am happy to see that our joint projects with partners are going on smoothly.”
“I hope more people can participate in these projects. Stay connected and be role models for others, we become more than the sum of our individual parts. This is how an inclusive digital future will be shaped.”
A digital badge for the Huawei ICT Academy was also released during the summit.
This badge allows teachers and students at Huawei ICT Academies worldwide to showcase their teaching and learning achievements on platforms like LinkedIn.
Huawei’s talent training and education projects have been implemented in over 150 countries, benefiting more than 2.83 million individuals.
