At least seven people have been confirmed dead following a tragic road accident involving a Public Service Vehicle (PSV) matatu along the Nairobi – Nakuru highway.
Preliminary reports indicate that the accident, which happened on Friday, April 11, morning at the Kamandura junction in Kiambu County, left several other passengers who were in the 14-seater matatu nursing injuries.

According to reports, the crash occurred when the vehicle lost control and veered off the road. This was before vehicle plunged into a steep slope and rolled several times.
Limuru OCPD Mary Gachie, while confirming the incident, stated that the matatu was travelling from Nairobi to Kijabe town.

Kamandura accident involving matatu leaves seven dead
Five passengers died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.
In addition, four survivors are currently receiving treatment at Tigoni Hospital, where they were rushed in critical condition.

On Thursday evening, another fatal crash happened approximately one Kilometer from the Kamandura accident scene.
The night accident involved a private vehicle which crashed after suffering a tyre burst, killing three people on the spot.
Two more victims later died while undergoing treatment. Wreckages from both accidents has been towed to Tigoni Police Station as investigations continue.
The two accidents are among road crashes recorded this year that have left behind casualties and fatalities.
15 dead in multi-vehicle crash
The crashes happened just a week after 15 other people lost their lives following a tragic road accident involving another PSV matatu and two other vehicles in Bomet County along the Kaplong-Kericho highway.

It involved a truck transporting sand, a 14-seater matatu and a saloon car.
The matatu operating under Member Travellers Sacco and the saloon car were travelling towards Bomet direction from Kericho, while the lorry was heading to Kapkatet in Kericho County.
Eyewitnesses said the saloon car attempted to overtake the matatu when it collided head-on with the oncoming lorry.
Bomet County Traffic Enforcement Officer Amos Namasaka said 14 others sustained injuries in the crash that happened on Saturday last week.
He added that investigations had begun to establish the cause of the accident.
“A total of 15 people have died, while 14 have been admitted to various hospitals in the county. The three vehicles were reduced to mangled wrecks,” said Namasaka.
The bodies of the victims were taken to Kapkatet Sub County Hospital in Kericho County for preservation.
