Renowned social media personality Scophine Aoko Otieno, popularly known as Maverick Aoko, has been released on a Ksh100,000 cash bail.
Earlier, she revealed that she lost her pregnancy while in police custody.
Through her social media manager, Aoko indicated on X, that she was harassed by masked officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Additionally, she explained that she was interrogated about Defence CS Soipan Tuya for hours before eventually being charged for her comments on a separate issue.
Also, the statement indicated that police officers asked questions about her intel on the first family.
“They sent 100 masked DCI to arrest Aoko, found her naked in bed, harassed her badly, she’s currently losing her pregnancy. Interrogated her on her tweets about Soipan and First Family for hours. Put her in cell for three Days.
“After Kenyans stood with her and demanded her release and answers, they have coined a different charge sheet. What a waste of state resources,” the statement read in part.

Charges Against Maverick Aoko
Aoko has been charged with one count of publication of false information contrary to section 23 of Computer misuse and cybercrimes ACT no 5 of 2018.
According to the chargesheet, she knowingly and unlawfully published false, defamatory and threatening information online on her X account.
Further, the charge sheet detailed that the false information was concerning the relationship of businessman Jamal Rohosafi.
Her statements have been termed as malicious, false and well calculated to cause fear, panic and destroy the reputation and professional career income and livelihood of Beth Wambui Mbuitu.

No Apologies from Her to the First Family
Earlier, the influencer stated that she remains unapologetic for her actions, adding that public figures should accept criticism from members of the public because it is normal.
“That is a matter of public interest. Why would they send 100 police officers to arrest a girl with a phone and intel?” she questioned.
“I am not relenting, and I am not backing down. If you are a public figure, you are susceptible to scrutiny.”
Aoko was arrested and detained on Friday, August 16.
