Human rights activist and chairperson of the Free Kenya Movement Bob Njagi has been released by his abductors after being held for nearly a month.
Njagi was released hours after Inspector General of Police (IG) Douglas Kanja and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohammed Amin denied abducting him and Kitengela brothers.
Speaking to The Kenya Times, the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Vice President Mwaura Kabata confirmed his release stating that Njagi was dumped at Thogoto area.
“Bob Njagi has been freed by his captors; he was dumped around 3am in Thogoto area,” he said.
LSK President, Faith Odhiambo, also confirmed his release via her official X account on Friday, September 20 stating, “At around 1 am Bob Njagi managed to find his way to Tigoni police station and for assistance. He is alive and well.”
Bob Njagi and Kitengela Brothers Freed
Earlier on, Jamil Longton and his brother Aslam Longton were also found after they were dumped at Gachie border of Kiambu and Nairobi by their captors.
Bob Njagi through Faith Odhiambo confirmed that he was alive thanked Kenyans who have been advocating for his release.

“To family, friends and every Kenyan that has continued to pray for me, I wish to confirm that I am well and with my family,” Njagi said
“It is now time to quiet the noise, be grateful for life and for everyone to reflect on why Kenya matters.”
At the same time, the two brothers returned their gratitude to Kenyans and God for standing with them.
“We thank all Kenyans who stood with us. We were released late last night in a place called Gachie, Wagichaka, and we had walk until we found an estate where we requested them to charge our phone. That’s when we informed our families that we are alive. We thank God,” they said.
The three men—Jamil Longton, his brother Aslam Longton, and activist Bob Njagi—were reportedly abducted by individuals suspected to be police officers on August 19, 2024, during the Gen Z protests.

Masengeli Sentenced Over the Disappearance of the Three
Their release came a week after the then acting IG Gilbert Masengeli was sentenced to six months imprisonment for contempt of court. Masengeli had defied court summons for the seventh time on Monday September 9.
Masengeli, who is responsible for protecting Kenyans in an acting capacity, failed to appear in the High Court regarding the disappearance of the three.
In his Ruling, on Friday September 13, Justice Lawrence Mugambi ordered Masengeli to submit himself to the commissioner general of Kenya Prisons to ensure that he is to be committed to a prison facility to commence serving sentence of the imprisonment imposed.
However, questions have been raised on whether the case against Masengeli will proceed or be handed over to the new Inspector General.
According to LSK Vice President Mwaura Kabata, even after the swearing-in of Douglas Kanja as the new IG, the case against Masengeli would continue, despite him resuming his duties as Deputy IG.
“Masengeli is a convict. Even if he becomes a deacon, the sentence stands” said Mwaura.
