KAA Staff Protests Begin
Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) resolved to continue with their industrial action siting the government being reluctant to address their concerns.
According to the workers, they are critical stakeholders who have been excluded from important decision-making processes, including a deal with Adani Airport Holdings.
They are demanding clarity on the deal, saying that there is foul play between KAA management and the international company.
The workers had originally given a 7-day strike notice to oppose the proposed leasing of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to India’s Adani Group.
However, after the government called for negotiations, the strike was postponed for two weeks, which KAWU now claims has yielded no positive results.

Ruto Defends Adani Takeover
Earlier on July 28, President William Ruto stated that the leasing JKIA out to investors was important because it allowed the government to expand the airport and ensure it serves Kenyans better under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
“Let’s be honest Kenyans, the airport we have in Nairobi is made of canvas. This is a temporary structure we built almost 7 years ago. Ethiopia has a brand-new airport. Rwanda the same. It is the reason why we need to work with investors to have a new airport in Nairobi,” Ruto said.
However, the proposal by Adani is facing a stumbling block after a Kenyan moved to court seeking to stop the deal.
In a petition filed at the Milimani Law Courts, Isack Lango Guyo wants the court to nullify all proceedings and agreements related to the project by Adani.
The petitioner highlighted that the project at JKIA is marred by severe breaches of the constitution and noted the lack of public participation.
