President William Ruto has made changes in the leadership of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), making new appointments and promotions.
In a statement, the ministry of defense has detailed that Major General Charles Muriu Kahariri has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General and has been appointed as Vice Chief of the Defence Forces.
Kahariri has replaced Lieutenant General Jonah Maina Mwangi who had been in service for 42 years.
Also, the President has promoted and appointed Major General David Kimaiyo Tarus to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed him the Commander Kenya Army.
Before his appointment, Lieutenant General David Kimaiyo Tarus served as the Deputy Army Commander.
Additionally, the head of state has promoted and appointed Major General Jimson Longiro to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed him Vice Chancellor National Defence University – Kenya.
Previously, he served as the Commander of the Kenya Navy.

Additional Appointments Made by Ruto
Brigadier Thomas Njoroge Ng’ang’a has been promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed as the new Commander of the Kenya Navy.
“Until he was appointed Commander Kenya Navy, he was the Base Commander Kenya Navy Base Manda,” indicated the statement.
On the other hand, Major General Juma Shee Mwinyikai has been promoted to Lieutenant General and appointed Commandant National Defence College.
Major General Mohamed Nur Hassan has been posted to Headquarters Kenya Army and appointed Deputy Army Commander.
Further, Brigadier Luka Kipkemoi Kuttoh has been promoted to Major General and appointed General Officer Commanding Eastern Command.
Major General Aphaxard Muthuri Kiugu has been posted to Kenya Military Academy and appointed Commandant.

At the same time, Major General John Maison Nkoimo has been posted to Border Security Command and appointed General Officer Commanding.
Brigadier Peter Shikuku Chelimo has been posted to the Kenya Navy Headquarters Kenya and appointed Deputy Navy Commander while Brigadier Yahya Abdi has been posted to National Defence College and appointed Senior Directing Staff Navy.
“Other changes have been made across the Kenya Defence Forces in line with the advice of the Defence Council,” the statement noted.
