President William Ruto has taken an early lead in the latest InfoTrak opinion poll ranking presidential contenders ahead of the 2027 General Election, emerging as the most preferred candidate among respondents surveyed.
The InfoTrak study surveyed 3,000 adult Kenyans across all 47 counties between June 22 and June 26, 2026. The poll has a margin of error of ±1.79 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.
The poll places Ruto ahead of his potential challengers, with former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, former ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i among the leading figures seeking to challenge him.

InfoTrak Survey Places Ruto Ahead of Potential Challengers
According to the latest InfoTrak survey, President William Ruto remains the most preferred presidential candidate among respondents, receiving 32 percent of the vote.
Ruto’s lead comes as his administration continues implementing its development agenda under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), with issues such as economic recovery, employment opportunities, cost of living, taxation, government programmes and public services ahead of 2027.

The survey indicates that while the incumbent maintains the highest support rating, the race remains competitive, with several opposition figures attracting significant backing from the electorate.
Kalonzo Musyoka emerged as the second most preferred candidate with 13 %support. The Wiper Party leader has maintained his presidential ambitions as a key figure in the opposition.
Sifuna and Matiang’i Record Strong Showing in Presidential Race
Former ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i each received 12 % support, placing them among the leading contenders in the survey.
Sifuna’s ranking comes as ODM undergoes a period of political transition and continues seeking to maintain its influence nationally.
The Nairobi senator has gained prominence through his roles as the former spokesperson for ODM and as the leader of Linda Mwananchi.
Matiang’i, who served in the Cabinet during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, also recorded a strong showing. His supporters have pointed to his experience in government, particularly during his tenure as Interior Cabinet Secretary, Education CS, and, currently, as an opposition leader.
Gachagua, Babu Owino and Other Leaders Rank Below Top Contenders
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua ranked fifth in the survey with 4 percent support.
Gachagua has continued his political engagements since leaving government in 2024 and has sought to strengthen his influence among voters.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino followed with 3%, while former Chief Justice David Maraga received 2% support.
Martha Karua, who contested the 2022 presidential election as Raila Odinga’s running mate, received 1%, while other candidates collectively received 1%.

The Infotrak poll also examined who is the most preferred running mate for president William Ruto under the Broad based Government.
Current Deputy President Kithure Kindiki who took office after Gachagua was impeached took the lead with 34% followed by Homabay Governor Glady wnga with 11% and ODM party leader Oburu with 5%
