The United States (US) government has issued a security alert for its citizens in Nairobi and other frequented regions in Kenya.
In a statement issued on Friday, the US Embassy warned against visiting the locations frequented by Americans, adding that they were attractive targets to terrorists.
Further, the US Embassy warned of a possible plan by terrorists to conduct potentially imminent attacks.
“Locations frequented by U.S. citizens and other foreigners and tourists in Nairobi and elsewhere in Kenya continue to be attractive targets to terrorists planning to conduct potentially imminent attacks,” the statement read in part.
At the same time, the Joe Biden led administration noted that attacks would happen with little to no warning in different establishments like hotels, restaurants and embassies.
“Terrorist groups could attack with little or no warning, targeting hotels, embassies, restaurants, malls and markets, schools.
“Others include police stations, places of worship, and other places frequented by foreigners and tourists,” added the warning.

US Advice on How to Stay Safe
To ensure safety, the US Embassy asked its citizens to stay alert in locations frequented by tourists and foreigners.
Additionally, Americans were advised to review their personal security plans and remain aware of their surroundings.
Other measures include avoiding protests areas and demonstrations as well as avoiding crowds. US citizens were also advised to keep a low profile.
Security Threat in KQ Plane from Nairobi
The alert came a day after a Kenya Airways flight was intercepted by United Kingdom security agencies because of a possible security threat.
Kenya Airways issued a statement on Thursday, October 12, stating that the passenger plane, was destined for the Heathrow airport in London but was forced to land in Stansted Airport for a risk assessment.
According to the statement, Kenya Airways received an alert of a potential security threat from agencies in the UK at around 1030 hours.
No Security Threat on KQ
On Friday, October 13, the Essex Police of UK Police issued a report noting that there was nothing of concern on board the Kenya Airways plane.
Further, the UK police noted that they conducted an intensive investigation including talking to the cabin crew and the passengers about the potential threat on board the plane.
“Officers have established there is nothing of concern on board a flight diverted to Stansted Airport. Officers carried out enquiries and established there was nothing of concern on board,” stated the report in part.
