Protests have erupted in Kangemi and Kitengela, as the youth-led anti-government demonstrations continue across the country.
In Kangemi, demonstrators have taken to the streets, blocking sections of Waiyaki Way, particularly at the Kangemi Bridge.
According to reports, the protests were sparked by the unsettling discovery of an unidentified body in a nearby swamp on the morning of Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
Following the discovery, locals in the area reportedly notified the police. The police, however, delayed in their response prompting the residents to barricade the road and initiate the ongoing protest.
In a show of outrage, local residents reportedly retrieved the body from the swamp and placed it on the road, further intensifying the unrest.
Kitengela Protests
Meanwhile, Kitengela is witnessing heavy police presence amid growing tension in the area that has recently experienced rowdy protests.
Video footage shared online showed a large convoy of police vehicles and water cannons patrolling the area in a bid to manage the protests and maintain order.

While trying to disperse the protestors, police have fired tear gas at demonstrators who attempted to block the Nairobi-Namanga road in Kitengela, Kajiado County.
Businesses in the area have closed up in fear of the ensuing chaos as police engage protesters in running battles.
A police helicopter has also been observed patrolling the skies above Kitengela amid the ongoing protests.
Nane Nane Protests
The protests witnessed in Kitengela and Kangemi come just days before the planned youth led protests dubbed “Nane Nane March” scheduled for August 8, 2024.
The Kenyan youth, who have remained adamant in their call for reforms and accountability, have been mobilizing online for this event drawing inspiration from the historical “Saba Saba” protests of the 1990’s.
Posters have been making rounds across different social media platforms detailing a set of instructions and schedule of activities expected to take place on the day of the march.

According to the plan, the youth were instructed to create awareness and mobilize their friends and colleagues on various social media platforms ahead of the planned grand event.
Between July 28 and 31, interested protesters are expected to secure their transport including booking Nairobi bound buses or considering carpooling and group travelling.
Likewise, between 1st and 4th August, the youth were urged to open their doors to their friends and relatives from across the 47 Counties who wish to take part in the event.
“On 5th-7th August all transport and accommodation arrangements would have been made, final briefings will be conducted by volunteers and coordinators before the march to the CBD,” read the action plan in part.
