The Chief Executive officer (CEO) of Safaricom Peter Ndegwa will be receiving an honorary doctorate degree. This is after Meru University nominated him for the conferment of the award.
In a statement, the university has indicated that it wants to confer Ndegwa with the degree of Doctor of Business Management (Honoris Causa).
Additionally, the University has indicated that the doctorate degree is to be issued to the Safaricom CEO during its 12th Graduation Ceremony.
The ceremony has been scheduled for Friday, October 4, 2024.
“Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) has nominated Mr. Peter Ndegwa (CBS) for the conferment of the degree of Doctor of Business Management (Honoris Causa) of the Meru University of Science and Technology,” the statement noted.

Meru University Explains why Ndegwa is the Best Candidate
The university has explained that the honor will recognize Ndegwa’s contributions and excellence in both national and international corporations.
Additionally, the university highlighted Ndegwa’s business practices which it has indicated has set the standard for many companies in the world.
“This esteemed honor recognizes Mr. Ndegwa’s immense contributions and excellence in both national and international corporations
“Highlighting his outstanding business practices and exemplary leadership that set the standard for best practices in the business world,” added the statement.
Furthermore, the statement has highlighted Ndegwa’s work at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) and East African Breweries Limited.
Also, his achievements and leadership roles at Diageo and Safaricom PLC have been noted are reason for him to get the degree.
“His transformative impact is evident from his foundational roles at PricewaterhouseCoopers to his strategic innovations at East African Breweries Limited.
“As a leader at Diageo and CEO of Safaricom PLC, he demonstrated exceptional foresight and global business acumen, driving substantial growth and navigating complex economic challenges,” added the University.
