Standard Chartered Bank Kenya is a leading financial institution in Kenya, regulated by the Central Bank of Kenya. It was established in 1911 with the first branch opened in Mombasa Treasury Square.

The bank was listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) in 1989.

Standard Chartered Bank is owned by Standard Chartered PLC, a British multinational financial conglomerate.

The public holds just under 25% of the shares, while the majority is owned by Standard Chartered PLC, with over 30,000 shareholders.

The bank operates 22 branches nationwide, 107 ATMs, and employs more than 1,000 staff members.

The bank offers a variety of local and foreign currency banking solutions to meet our clients’ transactional, borrowing, and investment needs.

Over the years of its operations in Kenya, the bank has recorded several market firsts, including being the first bank in Kenya to receive ISO 9002 certification for its technology systems.

Standard Chartered was also the first to launch an ATM Automated Banking Centre offering 24-hour convenience, and the first to introduce unsecured personal loans.

Financial Record for 2024 & First Quarter 2025

As of 2024, the bank achieved a record income of USD 19.7 billion globally, driven by 29% growth in Wealth Solutions, along with double-digit gains in Global Markets and Global Banking. This strong momentum has continued into 2025.

Standard Chartered Bank recorded results in the first quarter of 2025. The bank earned $5.4 billion in operating income, which is a 7% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

“The Group delivered a strong performance in the first quarter of 2025 amid an evolving economic environment. Operating income grew by 7 per cent to $5.4 billion. Excluding the impact of the notable items, operating income was up 12 per cent,” read part of the financial report.

Additionally, Net interest income went up by 7%, and non-interest income also increased by 7%. This growth came mainly from Wealth Solutions and Global Banking.

The bank’s operating costs rose by 5% due to investments in growth and inflation-related pressures. Credit losses for the quarter were $219 million, mostly from Wealth and Retail Banking.
