Early Life of George Koimburi

George Ndung’u Koimburi was born in Kenya and has family connections to Mau Narok in Nakuru County, where his late father, John Ndung’u Njoroge, was a well-known businessman who passed away in 2023.

He is married, with his wife often called “Mama Shiru,” and has a daughter whose recent wedding he attended before his reported disappearance in May 2025.

Before his political career, Koimburi worked for the Kiambu County Government.

Early Professional Life

He also served as the head of the Kiambu County Liquor Licensing Board under former Governor Ferdinand Waititu, overseeing regulations to combat illegal alcohol trade while supporting legitimate businesses.

He stepped down from this role in 2019, citing interference and mismanagement by county officials, which he claimed hindered his work.

Political Career of Koimburi

Koimburi first entered politics in 2017, contesting the Juja parliamentary seat under the Farmers’ Party but was defeated by Francis Waititu, whom he accused of misusing public resources to sway voters.

After Waititu’s death, Koimburi ran in the May 2021 Juja by-election, initially aligned with the Jubilee Party but switching to the People’s Empowerment Party (PEP) after Jubilee endorsed Susan Waititu, the late MP’s widow.

He secured victory with 12,159 votes compared to Waititu’s 5,746.

In 2022, he joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and won re-election, with his term set to end in July 2027.

Legal Issues

Koimburi is well known to many Kenyans due to his controversies over the years.

In 2021 he faced allegations of forging academic documents, including a KCSE certificate and a JKUAT certificate.

These claims led to investigations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and though the case was initially dropped, it was reopened in 2025.

Koimburi pleaded not guilty, securing bail of Ksh200,000 in February 2025 and later Ksh500,000 for allegedly missing court appearances.

In February 2025, Koimburi was arrested after alleging during a church service at PCEA Juja Farm Parish that the Kenyan government spent Ksh13 billion on Raila Odinga’s failed bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

He faced charges under cybercrime laws for spreading false information, with his lawyer defending his right to question public spending.

Abduction

On May 23, 2025, he reportedly escaped a car chase by suspected police officers after a bursary event at Gachororo Primary School.

The MP’s lawyer, Steven Mbugua, noted that the apprehension violated a High Court order from February 2025 (case number 28 of 2025), which barred authorities from arresting Koimburi until his next court appearance.

On May 25, 2025, he was allegedly abducted outside a Full Gospel Church in Mugutha, Kiambu, during a service, with his wife injured while trying to intervene.

His ally, Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa, linked the incident to Koimburi’s criticism of the government and his association with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

On May 26, 2025, Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Ndung’u Koimburi was reportedly found dumped at a coffee farm in Kiambu County, hours after his alleged abduction.
