BIOGRAPHY
Born in 1974, Susan Kihika is the daughter of the late Nakuru veteran politician Dixon Kihika Kimani, known for being elected as MP in three different constituencies (Nakuru North, Laikipia West, and Molo).
Educational Background
Susan Kihika started schooling at Busara Forest View Academy primary school in Nyahururu. She then proceeded to Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls clearing high school studies in the 80s. Thereafter, Susan relocated to the United States of America for higher learning.
She holds a degree in Political Science and Government from the University of North Texas and a Jurist Doctorate Law Degree from Southern Methodist University. Admitted to the Texas State Bar, she worked as a prosecutor in Texas before founding her law firm, specializing in immigration defence and criminal cases.
Family Life
Susan Kihika hails from Nakuru County and belongs to Kikuyu ethnicity community. She grew up in a large polygamous family and her mother, Alice, was her father’s second wife.
In addition, her late father, Kihika Kimani was a prominent politician during the late President Daniel Moi’s regime and over his lifetime sired 41 children.
She grew up in the large family and won her father’s affection and favour as he later revealed in a penned letter that Susan was his favorite child for doing him proud in America.

Susan is happily married to a renown wealthy businessman, Sam Mburu and together they have two daughters.
Susan Kihika Achievements and Awards
Notably, Susan Kihika was the first female speaker in Nakuru County Assembly after she fought and won the Nakuru County Speaker’s seat, becoming the Vice-Chairperson of the County Assemblies Forum.
Susan, inspired by her late father’s political legacy, has made quite a fortified name for herself in the world of politics and public service.
Furthermore, the Nakuru county governor is actively involved in community projects, charity work, and advocating for the rights of children, especially those with disabilities.
Elected as the second Senator for Nakuru County in 2017, she served as Majority Whip and later as the President of the IPU Bureau of Women Parliamentarians.
In the 2022 General Elections, Susan Kihika was elected as the third Governor of Nakuru County.
Career and Political Endeavors
Susan spent two decades in the United States after school building her career. She started off in public service working as an assistant district attorney in Dallas followed by a venture into private practice as an attorney.
Also, she set up the Kihika Law Firm in Dallas running it for more than ten years then in 2012 traveled back to Kenya.
In 2013, Susan vied for the parliamentary seat in Bahati constituency which she lost. She then served as Nakuru County assembly’s pioneer female speaker running the hearings of the house.
Susan Kihika is a strong supporter of President William Ruto and won the gubernatorial seat in 2022 on a United Democratic Alliance – UDA ticket.
