Residents in Mombasa and Kenyans online have been left in awe after a Tesla Cybertruck was spotted cruising through parts of the coastal city, drawing crowds, cameras and intense online speculation.
The multimillion-shilling electric pickup went viral over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, January 11, after videos and photos circulated showing the futuristic grey vehicle belonging to Cyberlocos, a round-the-world travel project by adventurers Berni and Alex, navigating roads in Mombasa.
One of the videos showed it stopping to recharge at City Mall, Nyali. Curious onlookers gathered to take photos as social media users questioned who owned the rare vehicle and how it had arrived in Kenya.
The pickup, believed to be the first Tesla Cybertruck seen in Kenya, belongs to Berni and Alex, adventurers behind the global road expedition Cyberlocos, documenting long-distance electric vehicle travel across some of the world’s most challenging terrains using a Tesla Cybertruck.
The duo is currently attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the most countries visited in an electric vehicle.
Cyberlocos ship electric Tesla Cybertruck to Mombasa
They announced their arrival in Kenya on January 10, 2026, sharing their excitement about entering Africa and beginning their East African leg in Mombasa.
“A new year, a new continent, a new part of this insane adventure… Africa, baby,” the travelers wrote in a Facebook post shared from Mombasa.

On Saturday, the Cyberlocos team uploaded a video showing the moment their Cybertruck was offloaded from a shipping container at the Port of Mombasa, ending a wait of more than a month.
“We waited for more than a month. We sent the Cybertruck from Dubai all the way to Mombasa, Kenya, and this is the moment when we are driving it out.”
Photos shared online show the Cybertruck at the port, stacked shipping containers in the background, and the duo posing with port workers during the offloading process. Other clips capture the vehicle being driven onto Kenyan roads for the first time.
According to Cyberlocos, their mission is to visit more than 80 countries by 2026 using a single electric vehicle, a feat they hope will earn them a Guinness World Record.
Their journey has already taken them across Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East, and parts of Asia, including Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, the UAE, and several Central Asian states, before shipping the vehicle to Africa.
While in Kenya, the duo says they are exploring local culture, food, and landscapes, while also showcasing the realities of long-distance EV travel in regions with limited charging infrastructure.
YouTube Channel
Cyberlocos documents the journey on YouTube and other social media platforms, where they share travel vlogs, logistics challenges, and behind-the-scenes footage of life on the road.
Their YouTube channel has attracted thousands of subscribers and millions of views as audiences follow their progress across continents.
Tesla’s Cybertruck, first unveiled in 2019, only entered production years later and at prices significantly higher than initially promised.
