An administration police officer identified as Constable Vincent Muteti killed himself inside his room on Wednesday, October 26.
Constable Muteti who was attached to Hulugho police station in Garissa County is said to have ended his own life by shooting himself.
The incident which occurred at night was reported by Muteti’s roommate at 2220 hours.
“As he was sleeping, he was awakened by the sound of a gun. Upon waking up, he found the body of his roommate lying on the floor,” the report reads.
Moreover, police officers established that Muteti shot himself using three rounds of bullets.
One bullet exited from the chin; another round exited from the head while the last one exited from the left side of his forehead.
According to the police report, Constable Muteti used an AK rifle to kill himself. Nonetheless, there was no suicide note recovered from the scene.
This incident occurred barely two days after another police officer died by suicide in Yatta, Machakos County.
Furthermore, there has been an increase in the issues of mental illness among police officers with the numbers of those committing suicide equally increasing.
