A security guard who worked for Malplast Industries Limited was mauled to death by four dogs at a yard in Embakasi, Nairobi.
The deceased, identified as Jonathan Lelenguiya, who is a guard at a private security company in the same area, was on his way home after an overnight shift when he decided to pass by a yard to say hi to his friend and colleague.
Mr. Lelenguiya was aware there were security dogs within but could not imagine they would attack him.
Moreover, Kauta Lenailapu, a handler at the yard, told police that when Lelenguiya arrived at the Swami Container Depot Limited compound on Monday morning, the German Shepherd dogs, which were loose, started to chase him as he took to his heels.
Unfortunately, the gate had locked itself, hence stopping him from escaping. As a result, the four dogs attacked and mauled him as he screamed for help in vain.
Likewise, the dog handler was unable to control the animals as they competed to bite the guard even as he tried fighting them off.
The handler called for help, and they managed to fight off and contain the dogs. But it was too late as by that time, the security guard had sustained serious injuries.
Nonetheless, an ambulance was called to the scene and rushed him to the Bellevue South Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The deceased had lost a lot of blood and was too weak.
Furthermore, Nairobi police boss James Mugera reported that they have opened an inquest file into the attack on the security guard as part of investigations into the incident.
“We are investigating the incident to establish what happened and how,” he stated.

Moreover, establishing what really happened will also enable the family of the deceased to seek compensation. One can sue for compensation in case of such fatal bites or serious injuries.
