Nairobi Water Announces Temporary Water Shutdown Affecting Multiple City Areas

Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (Nairobi Water) has announced a temporary water supply interruption affecting several parts of Nairobi during emergency repairs on the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline.

In a notice on September 10, the company said the Sasumua Water Treatment Plant will be shut down from 6:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, until 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026.

The shutdown is expected to last about 26 hours as Nairobi Water carries out emergency repairs along the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline.

“Nairobi, 10 September 2026 – Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd (Nairobi Water) wishes to inform its customers and the general public of a scheduled shutdown of the Sasumua Water Treatment Plant to facilitate emergency repair works along the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline,” stated Nairobi Water.

Areas Affected by the Water Shutdown

According to Nairobi Water, the interruption will affect residential areas, institutions, businesses and industrial zones across different parts of Nairobi City County.

The affected areas include:

Westlands/Lavington: Riverside Drive, Chalbi Drive, Convent Drive, Gitanga Road, Kunde Road, Hedred, Mbaazi, Masanduku, Leloghi Gardens, Ole Ndume Road, King’ara Road, Riara Road and surrounding areas.

Kileleshwa: Kandara Road, Gichugu Road, Mazeras Road, Mbooni Road, Othaya Road, Kaputei, Laikipia Road, Githunguri, DoD, St. George’s School, Tembere Road and surrounding areas.

University of Nairobi/Valley Road: University of Nairobi Main Campus, customers along Mamlaka Line and Valley Road.

Kilimani/Hurlingham: Argwings Kodhek Road from Chaka Road to Hurlingham, Hurlingham Shopping Centre, Mtito Andei Road, Kindaruma Road, Rose Avenue, Lower George Padmore Road, Daystar University, Denis Pritt Road, Coptic Hospital and surrounding areas.

Upper Hill: Matumbato, Kiambere, Masaba areas, Mawenzi Road, parts of Hospital Road, Kenya Road, Elgon Road, Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) and KEMRI Flats along Mbagathi Way.

Dagoretti/Kawangware/Waithaka: Lower Gitanga Road, parts of Kawangware, Sunset Estate, Sohill City Estates, Kagira, Kagondo, Muhuri Road, Upper Kabiria, Mithonge, Kamwanya, Kahuho Road, Ngina Road, Kikuyu Road, Waithaka, Ndwaru Road, Upper Waithaka, Gachui, Kirigo, Dagoretti Market and Mariguini.

Uthiru/Mutuini/Gatina: Uthiru Muthua area, Muchugia Road, Mutego, Mutuini, Gatina and surrounding areas.

Jamhuri/Kabarnet/Kenyatta Market: Bishop Magua, Kabarnet Road, parts of Joseph Kang’ethe Road, Muchai Drive from Ngong Road to Mbaruk Road, Jamhuri Estate, Upper Hill areas, KNH, KEMRI Offices, Highview 1 & 2, Kenyatta Market and surrounding areas.

Kibera: Makina, Karanja Road, Fort Jesus, Olympic, Kibera Kianda, parts of Gatwekera, parts of Ayany, Kibera Mwembeni, Makongeni environs, Kwa DC, Lindi, KEMRI Flats along Mbagathi Way, Highrise Estate and surrounding areas.

Kang’ethe/Togo Flats: Kinoo Road/Joseph Kang’ethe Junction-Togo Flats and Kang’ethe Greens (Upper Flats).

Langata/Nairobi West/Madaraka: Langata Barracks, Sunvalley 1 & 2, Royal Park, Dog Unit, KMA, St. Mary’s, Madaraka, Hima Gardens, Siwaka, Funguo Estate, Akila 2, Rangers Court, Leeban B and Nairobi West Shopping Centre.

Karen and surrounding areas: Bogani East Road, Muiri Lane, Forest Edge, Mukinduri Road, Muricho Road, Mukoma Road, Kisembe East, Magadi Road, Ndorobo Road, Kikeni Road, Ndovu Road, Kifaru Road, Tandara Road, Mutamaiyo, Mundenderu Road, Kikeni Close, Korongo Road, Swara Lodge environs, Quere Lane, Langata South Road.

CBD/South B & C/Airport Corridor: Central Business District, areas along Mombasa Road, South B and South C estates, including Mater Hospital, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), SGR, Athi River Export Processing Zone (EPZA), Coca-Cola, Mukuru, Imara Daima, estates and industries along North Airport Road, Embakasi Village, Tassia Estate and MAVWASCo.

Eastlands: Eastleigh, Maringo, Buruburu Phases 3 & 4, Gikomba, Pumwani, Majengo, Shauri Moyo, Jericho, Jerusalem and Kimathi areas.

Mathare/Huruma/Outer Ring Corridor: Mathare North, GSU, Rafiki, Utalii College, KPLC Training School, Traffic Headquarters, Mathari Hospital, Mlango Kubwa, Juja Road, Huruma, Ngei I & II, Kosovo, Racecourse, Ushirika, parts of Ngumba Estate, Old Muthaiga Road, parts of Thome, Survey, Safari Park Hotel, Kenya Breweries and parts of Baba Dogo light industries.

Industrial Area: The whole of Industrial Area, including Masai Road and adjacent areas.

Nairobi Water Advises Residents to Store Water

Nairobi Water has advised customers in the affected areas to store adequate water before the shutdown and use the available supplies sparingly throughout the repair period.

The company said it will make every effort to restore the water supply as quickly and safely as possible once the emergency repair work is complete.

Nairobi Water also appealed to affected customers for their understanding and cooperation during the shutdown, while regretting the inconvenience caused by the interruption.
