Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested three robbery suspects in Nairobi and Athi River,

The arrest was made following a thorough forensic analysis of evidence obtained from various armed robbery scenes across Nairobi and its environs, which occurred on different dates from 2023.

The suspects, Julius Osoro Nyagoi, John Michael Muturi, and Charity Njeri Kimani, who have been on police radar were apprehended after a successful pursuit.

According to the report by DCI, detectives from Starehe and Athi River headquarters, joined forces in a sting operation, resulting in the successful arrest of the suspects.

“As detectives heighten crackdowns on armed thugs that have become the nightmare of city dwellers in the Capital, three notorious robbery suspects have been rounded up in Kilimani and Athi River,” read the DCI statement in part.

Details of the arrest

Julius Osoro Nyagoi, the main suspect, was first arrested in Nairobi’s Kilimani area and following intense interrogation, he led the investigators to his homestead at Green Park Estate in Athi River, Machakos County.

Upon arriving at his house, detectives found two of his suspected accomplices, John Michael Muturi and Charity Njeri Kimani, and subsequently arrested them.

“After interrogation, the suspect led the investigators to his homestead at Green Park Estate in Athi River, Machakos County.”

“In his house no. 641, two of his accomplices; John Michael Muturi, 38 and Charity Njeri Kimani aged 34 were also arrested.” said the DCI in their statement.

DCI detectives recover stolen goods

A thorough search was conducted in the house, and several exhibits were recovered, including a Czeska pistol loaded with 7 rounds of ammunition, two pairs of motor vehicle number plates bearing Reg. Nos. KBB 027Z and KDE 399Q, assorted motor vehicle parts, and several sim cards.

Several mobile phones, two laptops, an iPad, logbooks for two motor vehicles, wrist watches, and ATM cards were also among the items recovered in the search.

Furthermore, several vehicles were also found within the compound and subsequently impounded for verification.

“Also found at the parking lot were motor vehicles Reg Nos. KDC 019P Mazda Bongo, KCE 135W Toyota Noah, KCB 790B Toyota Mark X and KDE 459A Toyota Fielder, all of which were impounded for verification,” the DCI statement read.

Detainment & Arraignment of the suspects

The suspects were then escorted to Pangani Police Station for processing and are set to be arraigned today, Thursday, April 11, 2024, in court.

These arrests mark a significant milestone in the fight against crime in Nairobi and its environment.
