Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have recovered suspected stolen electronic devices as the ongoing crackdown in Nairobi intensified.
Further, the March 4, 2024, operation targeted suspicious phone repair stalls, unearthing a cache of 182 mobile phones, a laptop, an iPad, and two heating machines in the Ruai and Kamulu areas.
Detectives made the recovery after raiding the Free Mack Electronic Shop in Ruai and Kamale Mobile Repair, along with Friends Communication Shop in Kamulu.
In Kamukunji, detectives zeroed in on Information Shops numbered 3A and 2B, seizing 19 suspected stolen mobile phones.
The relentless pursuit continued at Cianda Market shop number 426, where an additional 10 phones were discovered.
Moreover, sleuths in Lang’ata recovered 34 suspected stolen phones and 8 laptops at Skydeck Technologies shop by DCI Central detectives.

Simultaneously, in Kasarani’s Githurai 44 area, four suspects were arrested as part of a similar operation.
The concerted efforts of law enforcement agencies led by DCI officers aimed at curbing electronic theft.
DCI Relentless Pursuit of Robbers
In a separate incident, police in Embakasi apprehended five robbers who targeted a resident in the Matopeni area at Mukuru kwa Njenga – Reli section.

The assailants allegedly stole a jacket and an OPPO phone valued at Ksh20,000.
In addition, the police officers successfully recovered the stolen items and arrested five suspects.
Consequently, DCI Nairobi Region Coordinator warned phone thieves masquerading as dealers and repairers, emphasizing that detectives are intensifying their efforts to track them down.
Legitimate vendors were advised to exercise caution when handling second-hand electronics to avoid entanglement with the law.

“The DCI Nairobi Region Coordinator has warned phone thieves posing as phone dealers & phone repairers that detectives are hot on their trail, equally cautioning legit vendors to be careful while handling 2nd hand electronics as they may put them in serious problems with the law,” read the statement from DCI.
