The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested a gang of armed men who ambushed a family of three in Nakuru County, holding them hostage before taking off with the family owner’s car and other valuables.
DCI in a statement on March 1, 2024, noted that the arrests were made in an operation led by the Operations Action Team (OAT) in Nakuru.
“After days of relentless pursuit by forensically analyzing all possible intelligence leads, detectives proceeded to Nakuru North where they laid an ambush at Kiamunyeki area, successfully cornering the gang,” said DCI.
It is reported that the gang attacked the family at around 9pm on February 13 at Mirera estate in Naivasha.
Police at the Naivasha Police Station received a call from a distressed female at around 3 am on February 14.
She reported to have been accosted by a five-man gang at her house and held hostage from 9pm up to 2am on Valentines Day.
The victim identified as Nelly Cherop Kosgei narrated the ordeal in her report noting that she was at her house with her two kids and the house help.
DCI narrates ordeal
In a twist of events, five men stormed into the house armed with crude weapons sending the family into panic.

According to the detectives, four of the men were dressed in jungle uniforms. After subduing the family with threats to kill if they raised alarm, the gang ransacked the house for valuables.
From the narration of the victim, the gangsters had the audacity to smoke and eat some of the food they found in her house.
Their mission involved them disappearing with two TV sets, two laptops, a JBL sound bar and four mobile phones.
Making use of the time, the gang then loaded the valuables in the complainant’s Nissan model vehicle before speeding off.
Luckily, no one out of the four hostages was harmed in the incident.

Having reported the matter at Naivasha Police Station, DCI detectives took over the case.
DCI noted that the detective fruitlessly searched for the perpetrators in their area of jurisdiction.
This involved them calling upon the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) team based at DCI Headquarters to assist in the pursuit.
Following the organized operation that involved relentless pursuit by the detectives, the gang was ambushed at Kiamunyeki area, with the detectives successfully apprehending the gang.
