Citizen TV journalist Stephen Letoo has resigned from his position as Chairman of the Men’s Conference with immediate effect following public outcry.
Letoo’s resignation came on the backdrop of discontent among members of the Men’s Conference, who have accused him of hypocrisy regarding his stance on polygamy.
Despite publicly advocating for polygamous relationships, Letoo’s recent wedding ceremony held at the William ole Ntimama stadium on April 20 saw him tying the knot with only one wife, contrary to the expectations of many of his followers.
Letoo On His Decision to Resign
The senior political reporter has faced intense scrutiny on social media, with supporters to the Men’s Conference challenging him to step down from his chairmanship role and allow someone else to lead the group forward.
Addressing the media after returning from a holiday in Zanzibar, Letoo explained his decision, citing the chairmanship of Men’s Conference as a pertinent issue.
“After soul searching, I have arrived at a decision to step down as the chairman of the Men’s conference and I have tendered my resignation to the office of the Men’s conference based in Nairobi and I will cease being the chairman with immediate effect,” stated Letoo.

Letoo pointed out that his resignation followed extensive consultations with friends and allies both within Kenya and beyond, indicating that it was a difficult but necessary choice.
Championing Men’s Agenda
Acknowledging the challenges ahead for his successor, Letoo further stressed how it would even be difficult to fill his shoes as he quits after one and half year’s tenure at the helm of Men’s Conference leadership.
“It will be difficult to fill the shoes of the former chairman, the late Mzee Jackson Kibor and even more difficult to fill my vacant role. I want to encourage the incoming chairman that being the head of men is not for the faint-hearted people,” he said.
Throughout his tenure as Chairman, Letoo expressed gratitude to all the men who cooperated with him, terming his one and a half years in office as a success.
He highlighted achievements such as advocating for the rights of the boy-child and men, regardless of marital status, and initiatives focusing on mental health and safety campaigns launched during his tenure.
“I want him to continue to advocate for rights of boy-child and men regardless of who they are, whether single, married, polygamous, or any other status,” said Letoo.
