Senate Speaker Amason Kingi shared a light moment on how he scored a goal in his “birthday suit” during his childhood days.
Speaking during the burial ceremony of his father Mzee Kingi Mwaruwa, Kingi narrated how they grew up in poverty stating that they wore ‘shukas’ at school as his father could not afford school uniform.
One day, he narrated, his shuka started slipping out of his waist while playing football at school. He explained how he faced a dilemma on whether to score the goal or save his ‘shuka’ that had now become loose on his waist.
“Both teams had drawn at two goals each and it was injury time. I love to play in the number 7 position (winger). On that particular day, the ball was given to me, and it was now between me and the goalkeeper,” Kingi narrated.
Kingi faced with tough choices
“I was running and I stopped the ball with my foot. The ‘shuka’ which I had tied tightly on my waste suddenly became loose. I was left with very tough choices,” added the Speaker.
He went on to narrate that the game was almost over with only one minute in extra time to play.

“If I score, my teammates will celebrate me and at the same time, if I continue Kicking the ball, my ‘shuka’ will fall. So I had to make a choice. I chose to score naked,” he stated.
He added that he opted to score the goal naked to the pleasure of his teammates who cheered him without caring that he was naked.

“My team carried me up in the air in celebration not wanting to care that I was naked,” he said.
He stated that the experience made his village have a special place in his heart, as it holds some memories that he does not think he will get elsewhere.

The Senate Speaker sent the mourners into laughter including President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and other national leaders who attended the event.
The ceremony was held at Kamale Village in Kilifi County.
Kingi’s father passed away on February 9, 2025, while receiving treatment at a hospital in Mombasa. He was eulogized as a hardworking man full of wisdom, kindness, and unwavering strength.
