The Higher Education Loans Board -HELB has responded to claims of stopping students loans due to the harsh economic situation in the country.
On its X account, HELB dismissed the fake post alert taking rounds on social media that the disbursement process will be put on hold until further notice.
“Beware of misinformation, disinformation & innuendos! Stay vigilant, verify sources, and let us share responsibly,” said HELB.
The flagged statement urgeed students to seek other avenues of raising school fees since the board will not be disbursed.
Besides, the fake alert is dated January 4, 2024, and signed by Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu.
“Due to the financial constraints downing the economy of our country, I hereby inform all loan applicants of HELB funding programme that the disbursing process will be put on hold until further notice.
Kindly consult with all your parents and guardians on other fee alternatives,” read the statement.
The statement further claimed that the report was issued on the basis of the information available to the Board as the date it was released.
HELB Civil Servants Loans
HELB opened applications for the Civil Servants Training Revolving (TRF) Fund on January 5, 2024.
According to the Board, the loan is meant for civil servants including employees of a Ministry, County government or National Police service seeking to pursue post-graduate education.
“Civil servants, this one’s for you! Application is now open for the Training Revolving Fund – TRF Loans.
This fund is set aside for the Ministry of Public Service works in collaboration with HELB for Civil Servants in the National Government, County Governments, and National Police Service to pursue postgraduate studies,” said HELB.

Law Students Loans
Kenya School of Law (KSL) in partnership with HELB re-opened tuition fee loan applications for students sitting for the Advocate Training Program.
This loan aims to reduce the financial burden of tuition fees for eligible ATP students.
Interested applicants must be pursuing the Advocate Training Program at KSL to qualify for the scheme.

The fund is required to cater for the tuition fee of ATP students only.
Applicants interested in the tuition loan should visit www.hef.co.ke to access the Student Portal.
HELB also stated that the closing date for applications for the 2024-2025 KSL Tuition Loan is January 8th, 2024.
